Well if you want to add commercials and trade show work ...
We used to compile lists of names before casting was even considered.
We have used over FORTY different sources for casting/production info over last ten years. As diverse as direct Emails to us and Adweek to learn about new product launches. Amusement Business [published by your parent company] to sell v/o's by mailorder.
When Ross was a monthly it was more up-to-date then the unions own agent lists.
Now-a-days, we limit ourlselves to Ross, BackStage and the SAG casting site. Friend just got a SAG job from SAG WWW site.
My wife got a job as a product spokes/product demonstrator after I got an address off a box at Bloomigdales and I wrote to the company's marketing people.
We have well over one thousand names and addresses for NYC work. Some may only cast one project every couple of years. Some on an almost daily basis. Most is for background work in film [which we don't really do anynore]. One was a production company in France as wife did a SAG commercial in NYC for them for Hollywood Gum.
At one time when we promoted ourslves a lot [we used to mail 500 p/r MONTHLY we got two calls at same tiem for work. As we have three phone lines with a hunt group, we were hearing one casting office leaving a message on one line while ANOTHER is leaving a message on our other line.
I once had two people unknowingy offering me the SAME job. I knew I could negotiate and still get the job. I took the highest offer. They were very pissed off at what I did!
