Hi everyone,

I just wanted to know if you're not represented or freelancing with anyone, how do you get auditions for commercials? Backstage, ActorsAccess and etc doesn't provide a lot of commercial work. So basically, you're stuck with nothing if you're not "connected" through with someone who has the auditions?

Also, how hard is it to get an agent or freelance with someone for commercial work?

And another thing, how much does a slight accent impact your chances towards getting one?

1. the sources you've cited work for me.
2. next to impossible.
3. pretty much rules you out unless the role calls for one.

Hi Whispers, I agree with what CSilvera said. To give you a little hope...1)those are good sites; look for others as well. 2)Forget about an agent right now. Try to get into some kind of a production, or at least hang out with experienced performers, and learn from them about how they get commercials work. 3)If you want to do commercials, you need to be able to change your accent. It is a basic acting skill which can be difficult, but it is so important. Practice with a friend, tape record yourself, mimic people you hear on tv or radio, get some coaching, do whatever it takes...if you work hard, you can lose your accent and maybe pick up some others for fun and for future use when they are needed!

Does the same go for commercial print as well?

Also,

I use:

mandy.com
actorsaccess.com
backstage.com
nycasting.com
nycastings.com
and get this newsletter from yahoo groups.
...also, I know about craigslist and that people had luck with them and nowcasting.com ...

pretty much I listed it all, haven't I?

For the most part, agency representation is the way to go for commercial print. The high-paying gigs occasionally show up on those sites, particularly if there's a specific type they have to find, e.g., people who are taking a particular prescription drug or who have a specified disease.

It'd be to your advantage to be able to speak both with and without accent. There are accent reduction classes somewhere out there in the city.
