Question for those with experience: Can a child who is not equity go to an equity call for the role of Jane Banks? And if not, how do you get equity if you can't go to auditions unless you are equity? Thanks for the any advice.

If you are talking about Chitty, I think you mean Jemima Potts. Jane Banks is Mary Poppins. And the answer is yes, but there is no guarantee your child will be seen, especailly if the call is for equity adults and kids.

Sorry, it is Jemima Potts. Have you ever had experience trying to go to an equity call when your child was not equity? Do you think it is worth it?

There is no one set answer. I have found that for kids roles they are likely to be seen, but that's only my experience.

If you do go, go early, sign in on the non-equity sheet and be prepared to wait. I think kids have a better chance of being seen if it's a kids only call. The Chitty call, if I am right, is for both kids and adults. That may make it a little tougher. But if you're willing to take the chance, by all means go for it, and good luck!!

Non-union actors audition for Equity roles all the time. There are no guarantees, but for children, there are usually more chances to be seen. Here's a thread with a good discussion on this topic.

As SAG is the union for film and TV, Equity, also known as AEA = Actors' Equity Association, is the labor union that represents stage actors and stage managers.
