I was wondering what were the options for somebody living in New York to find auditions without an agent. I just sent out headshots to all the agencies in NY, and have a pretty decent resume, but in the meantime, I'm wondering where I could look for more opportunities.
As of now, I know of Mandy.com (mostly student films), actorsaccess.com (which makes you pay $2 for every submission online), and I get Backstage every week. Is there anything else I should be focusing on or looking for?
Thanks!

It's best to pay the yearly fee for unlimited submissions to actorsaccess instead of the $2 per submission. Cheaper in the long run by far.
I have booked commercials in NY off of actorsaccess as well as a principal role for an episodic off there when I lived in LA.
And Nycastings.com as well as nycasting.com, (without the s on the end) but nycastings.com is best.
Have you paid for any of the one on one audition places like Network East, Actors Connection, etc? I am freelancing with a commerical agent I met at Actors connection.
Are you Equity? Do you want to do theatre as well? Even if you're not Equity, there is alot of theatre going on, and Non equity will sometimes be seen at Equity auditions.

Thanks guys! I will definitely do the year fee ($65 I think?)
So as of now, we have: NYcasting.com NYcastings.com ActorsAccess.com Backstage Mandy.com
We also have to pay for both NY Castings, and Backstage online, right?
I actually am signed up for Actor's Connection and TVI Studio Updates, and have taken two seminars so far with Casting Directors at TVI...just trying to save up more money to continue.
I am not Equity, but when it comes to auditions for Equity, SAG, AFTRA, etc, how does that work? I'd stil love to audition if possible...

For NY, use actorsaccess and NYcastings for SAG, AFTRA casting notices. But be aware you are only seeing 30% of what is really being cast. Agents and Casting Directors have access to the other 70% via the breakdowns, and those are the best projects, although once in a while something good comes along the sites listed above. Actorsaccess and Nycastings list projects that are made public, while the best stuff is only available via the breakdowns, which agents and CD's pay for.
For Equity, check out backstage playbill.com and actorsequity.org for casting notices. Since you are Non Equity, you can go to the Equity office and sign the non equity list for chorus calls a week before the actual auditions. For Equity Principal auditions, you must arrive at the crack of daw on the day of the audition and get on the non equity list, which some non equity people will start, but once the monitor arrives at the EPA, which is one hour before the audition, he will have an offical list which you may transfer all those names over to, as he will not honor the list all non eqs began.
Keep in mind, for all Equity auditions, it is up to the casting directors or the producers running the audition as to whether non equity people will be seen. You could sit there all day and never be seen. They must see Equity, EMC (Equity Membership Candidates) first before Non Equity.
For all Equity rules, check out actorsequity.org
