Has anyone seen this musical theater audition notice on NY Castings and is also familiar with "Kidz Theater" in NY? DD got a call to audition...I was told they are very selective and seek "broadway" caliber child performers. Never know what to believe. It is a non-pay performance, but would consider it for the experience, if program is worth the commitment. Any feedback is appreciated.

DS was in one of thier previous productions and will also be auditioning for this one. He had a wonderful time and made alot of friends . Although its non paying, I felt he gained 2 months of free Musical Theatre experience in return. There are alot of very talented children in thier shows and even some that have previously been on broadway. It is a large commitment and they do excpect you to commit to all rehersals unless noted when you audition. Good luck and let me know how it goes, we will be there as well.

Thanks, Fanmom.......this is what I have been waiting to hear from someone. This would be my DD first encounter with Kidz Theater and from what I was told and read via e-mail it sounds like great musical theater experience, which is most important. Good luck to you as well.

This is my DD's 1st experience with Kidztheater and we're also looking forward to the audition. Does anyone have an idea as to why such professional kids participate in their performances? Is this typical of all performances there? Whatever the reason, what a great learning experience!

Hi Liz - I think that, because there are such limited professional opportunities in theater for kids (especially teens), that Kidz Theater offers a great performing opportunity - and these are the kind of kids who LOVE to perform! Professional jobs can be few and far between even for talented adults . . . so any chance to work with kids of a similar level is good!

The current Bye Bye Birdie production has many kids who've performed professionally - but also many who haven't. There are also quite a few who attend performing arts schools, even if they don't work professionally "yet". All in all, it's a superbly talented group of kids who take performing very seriously - so can put on a high caliber show - but they also have a terrifically fun time as they're doing it.

My little birdie has been having the time of her life! Good luck to your DD and to all the kids auditioning for "Joseph . . .".

kristen is a GREAT girl, a friend of mine. she's a professional AEA actress and (hopefully i can say this) worked with child actors at AGP in NYC when they had a show.

i know many of the AGP girls get cast in her shows, and they have professional credits, which likely answers the "why professionals do it" question. and those pro kids invite their friends who are pros, and on and on!

she is excellent with kids and while i wasn't able to see any of the shows (always sold out!), i'm sure they are of top quality.

That's great to know, thank you! Since accepting/confirming our audition, I've heard wonderful things from people (even those not involved in the biz who have seen shows there)..I don't think this would matter much in my DD's case since she would just be part of the kid's choir, but does anyone have any experience with agents/managers, etc. sitting in on these shows???

I do not have any experience with that part of it but I can say is that you can always send a personal invite with your childs headshot and resume to agents and managers to the show.
