I just saw the commercial for Angelina Jolie's new movie and it made me wonder.... Do people like Anglina Jolie have to audition for roles? Or does the director just contact her agent and offer her the role outright and send over a script???
I've always wondered that about the big celebrities... like Rosie O'Donnell on B'way or even someone like Lindsay Lohan (in her GOOD days).....

Diane, I would imagine that most celeb's get the script sent right over to them if they have such a great reputation. (I'd want them in my movie w/o an audition.) I was watching a show just recently (I can't remember which one) and the actress said, "I was in a bit of an acting slump, and then I received this script because the director thought I was perfect for this role." So I would imagine this happens as well as some having to audition, too. Bottom line if your a good actress like Angelina, I guess you'll never have a problem getting a job!

I know that they usually send over a script to a person they think would do well in the part... but wouldn't that person still have to audition (even if it's Angelina) just to make sure she can play the role as the director, etc see the character?

1. There are directors that make everyone go though the process, but thay are few. And if a Jolie type is forced to audition, you will hear about it in every interview they do for the film.
2. If there was a high profile part, they might do screen tests with a couple high profile canidates. Sorta like going straight to callbacks.
3. A big celeberty might go after a piticular part that they were not asked to play.

Thanks, Ice.... it was something I was really wondering about. Rosie O'Donnell had done Fiddler and, more recently, No No Nanette and I was wondering if she auditioned for the roles or if they just called and asked her.
Then, whenever I see a film with Angelina Jolie or someone like her, I always wonder what the process is for them.
Thanks again!

I think Robert Downey Jr. fought to audition for the role of Tony Stark in Ironman..I think the director who is hos friend wanted him, but there are still the producers who foot the bill of a film that have the ultimate say. Big stars may not have to audition, but the a producer who is bankrolling a multi million dollar may not want that star if they are not convince they will get their investment back.

Its so funny becase when i first read the oist I thought about Robert Downey JR and how when he was on live this week he was saying how he had to fight for the role in Ironman and he did have to do a screentest. I think its uncommon but it does obviously happen.
