I would think singing acapella is entirely acceptable for an agent audition. When my daughter "auditioned" for her agent she brought a cd with the backing music, but she was given the option of singing acapella as well. She chose to use the backing music because she was most comfortable that way.

Acapella is expcted for most showbiz auditions, unless casting provides tracks or an accompanist. For a music industry audition, acapella is ok too, or your child can listen to tracks in their ear (with an ipod).

I would amend that slightly to say that acapella is the norm for most agency auditions. For b'way, for example, accompaniment is almost always provided, and you are expected to bring sheet music in your key with your chosen 16 bars clearly marked. But for agency auditions, my DD almost always sang acapella.
