My daughters agent is sending her in on Thursday for a mary poppins/jane banks audition. Does anyone know if they are looking for replacements or if this is just a standard call?

We know one of the current Jane's and she is 14 and may have outgrown the part. i know her six month contract is just about up so they may be replacing her.

Our friend is going in for a Michael call this week. One of the boys in the show is almost 15 ... maybe he is leaving?

My girl doesn't fit this role. Just wondering; at the agent calls are they just singing or singing and dancing?

Does anyone know the minimum age they are requesting for Jane?

There is no minimum age, specifically...the main requirement is that Jane must be bigger than Michael. And Michael has to be old enough to carry the show since they are on stage the entire length of the show. Feel free to correct me, but I do not think any of the Jane's has been under 10 years old when performing.

Thanks for clarifying. The reason I ask is that I think my dd is gonna be too small for that role for a long time. She is 8, but looks 6 onstage. I happened to be in Chelsea studios yesterday for something else, and saw a bunch of girls auditioning for Mary Poppins and some of them looked even smaller than my DD, so it made me question why she wasn't submitted. But I'm gonna just go with my initial gut that she is gonna be just too small for this for about another 2 years.

Disney (and agents) likes to get kids in the pipeline for those Disney roles. Disney is very specific about what they look for in a "Disney kid." When they find a kid who fits their type (look and personality), even if they might be too small now, they won't be in a few years and the kid will stay on the Disney casting radar.

Sassysmom,

Why not ask your manager and agent why she wasn't submitted? I know that your manager was aware that auditions were coming up; she talked about submitting my DD if we were signed by then, but we are not starting her contract until April because of her dance schedule. My DD is a little older than yours (almost 10) and, I believe, a bit taller. And yes, kipmil, I believe the youngest has been 10. I know that the youngest current Jane just turned 11 (in fact, we were at her birthday party just a few weeks ago -- hello to all the awesome backstage moms I met there!!)

Kipmil,

When you say "disney kid" what do you mean... what is it that they're looking for?

Well, I'm no expert, but I can tell you what I think they are looking for, based on some of the choices I've seen them make, and based on conversations I've had with CDs, agents and managers. I would say that Disney theatrical talent development looks for kids who are small for their age, with cute, almost pixie-like features, out-going and imp-ish personalities both in person and on stage, and they have to be great (disney-style) singers and actors. They look for a very specific total "Disney" package. It's not to say that they don't cast other kids. This is my perception of what Disney theatrical talent development keeps an eye out for.
