Ahh If I weren't too tall and wasn't going to be out of town, I would totally audition. Bob Cline and his staff are probably some of the nicest people you'll ever audition for.

I'm a frequent reader of the boards but this is my first posting. I am wondering why there hasn't been much discussion about this audition. I am also wondering if it is normal for them to be having auditions mid-tour. Does anyone know if they have done that in years past?

Congrats on your first post! Not sure why there hasn't been much discussion. Perhaps because this is an ongoing tour and the audition process doesn't really change. seems like they have an open call apx every 6 months. Martin Charnin is a big fan of open calls, so even repped kids go to the open calls.
It is not unusual to have auditions mid-tour. This is an ongoing tour. Not sure if it even has an end date. (Maybe someone else knows this). There are many reasons kids might be asked to leave or request to leave the tour. Maybe some kids sign on for just 6 months. If it were my kid, I would probably only sign on for 6 months (if that were an option). Again, I don't know how the contracts are written, just speculating on reasons why they look for immediate and future replacements every 6 months. Also, kids grow, and they can grow out of the costumes and out of the roles. And, although tutors are provided for the kids, realistically, I think education probably takes a back seat while your kid is touring. Some might decide their kids need to get back to their regular education program. The relatively low pay may be a factor in the reason people must leave the tour. I believe the pay scale (non-equity for this tour) is somewhere around $300 week salary for the child actor, about $440/wk per diem (child only), $275/wk parent stipend plus money for hotel. This info might have changed, but I believe this was the pay package for the tour in June. For more information on the pay and stipend package you could probably call Network tours directly.

$300/week is really low, if that's accurate. As far as I know, there is no extra money for hotel fees on tours. That has to come out of the per diem given. The per diem has to cover food and hotels, so there can't be much left after that!

Thanks Kipmil... that all makes sense. I appreciate your insight.
Any idea how many girls show up for an audition of this nature? I know last summer when they were casting all the orphans they had about 350. Will that many girls show up for the mid-tour audition?
Does the tour ever run through the summer or do they take a break? I know the schedule only lists dates through May 2008. Anybody know?

Not sure. I think I'am gonna sit this one out. Your right lightsonbway the pay is about $300 a week and it's a 10 month tour. You can always leave but you have to give them 1 months notice. Ohh, and it's a bus tour I know one girl who has done it and she said she had a good time. She's in the Lion King now so maybe Annie could lead to bigger Broadway productions. You never know! Touring is just not for me at this moment and time.

This is what I've heard from the last very big call when Marissa O'Donnell was selected to play Annie (she is now in an ensemble cast in a remake of a play that is coming to Broadway- don't know the name but it's something futuristic). He was a brilliant Annie and only missed 1 show on the tour. On the auditions, people said someone came out with a measuring tape to see how tall the girls were. But I have to say that there were girls in the show as evidenced by the picture that were over 4'10" for sure. They had a group picture of them, and Marissa O'Donnell's height was listed at 4'10" but two of the girls towered over her. So I'm not sure why they say they are strict with the height when the pictures show otherwise.
I have a friend who did a national tour for a big show, but his pay was a lot more than that. His hotel and food was covered, and they traveled by plane. So perhaps for kids it is different. After the tour, he went on to play the lead on Broadway in the show he was touring with (the show was on Broadway about 3 years already).

Not sure how many kids will show up; you never can tell. I do know that Martin Charnin really does cast from these open calls. We are sitting this one out, as there's no way we could tour at this point and we have a dress rehearsal that day for my DD's dance competiion company.

I think they said about 350 girls auditioned last year. My DD was #1 in line. She made the final 40. I said I was gonna sit this one out but they just e-mailed me a special invite to audition because she maid the top 40. She has a check in time of 11:00. Does that mean I can just walk in at 11:00 or get in line at 9:00 to insure I'am in by 11:00? Just want to make sure. My DD has rehersal for a dance comp that day as well (NDS) but i feel almost oblagated to go because they sent her the invite. Not sure what to do.I know I'am not able to tour if she gets it. Is it worth finding family members and letting her go without me just for the experience?
