Hi i also posted this in another thread before realizing it shouldve been posted here (sorry) My 11 yr old ds has his 1st commercial aud today and im out of a babysitter for my 3yr old ds, can i bring him with me or do i have to cancel oour apt? I do not want to call our mng co. because its his 1st aud. so id like to try to make it if its not to uncommon to have to bring a sibling. Thanks for advice.

I wouldn't cancel unless you think your three year old will cause a ruckus at the audition. If he/she is very well behaved, you shouldn't have a problem, but if he/she likes to run around and talk loudly, it's not a good idea. Also, I would be as accomodating in the audition as possible by not using the chairs for your young one.

Many casting offices in NY are very small, nothing more than a bench, or a few benches in a hallway or small room. I would not take a little one along.

I wouldn't cancel either - I would call mgt. company and let them know that you need to bring your smaller child. I've been to many many auditions where there are siblings there. Bring a favorite treat or something you don't usually let them use to keep them occupied! You could always tell the person checking you in that you will be waiting in the hall etc. so you guys don't disturb the others (I think they respect that!!!!) GOOD LUCK

Why would you call your manager when everything may work out fine? They don't need to think you aren't able to properly make auditions.

I definitely would not call my manager...don't want them to think I'm going to be a problem child. True there are certain casting offices where you could get away with bringing a young sibling...and others where I would NEVER do it. I know which office we are discussing and I think this one falls under the "NEVER do it" category.

While I would never bring a sibling to a booking, I often brought my dd to her older brothers' auditions. You can go on so many auditions before you actually book something, and I couldn't of afforded to hire a sitter every time they went in for something. I wouldn't have started them in the business if she wasn't well enough behaved to sit quietly and I always made sure we had snacks and toys to keep her busy. She booked her first job at one of her brother's VO auditions. An agent spotted her in the waiting room and signed her and sent her on a print go see the same day and she had her first booking later that week. When my kids were little I use to try to make our trips into the city fun and educational for the whole family and would often add a trip to the park or the children's museum in as well. Good luck!

It's good to hear things went well. Those people in NY would definately know better than I how auditions are run there. I totally agree that it is a very bad idea to bring other children (especially so young) to auditions, but I was concerned about it being your son's first audition. If you let the agency know there might be a problem, I think you might have run the chance of starting off on the wrong foot. At least it went well this time.

I used to constantly bring my baby to COMMERCIAL auditions in LA. It may not have worked for theatrical auditions but for commercials, it was never a problem. Lots of moms do it.
Of course he was too little to cause too much trouble...

Its funny this has bumped up again, today is my 6 yr old dds first commoercial aud. (im leaving young ds home with older dd) at some point i will probably have to bring a sibling with me. I am the mom of 4 children (2 in the biz) and i will not always be able to get some one to come into the city with me or watch them so i will have to bring him every now and then. I will learn which places look like it will be easier to get away with. When i was there on monday there were people who brought siblings (they were older) but they were still there. Thanks for all advice its always so helpful!

It is certainly unavoidable at times. I think the behavior is what matters moreso than if the sibling(s) is/are there.

We were at a theatrical casting office last week and an adult actor had his 5y.o. daughter with him. She was extremely well behaved. She sat quietly playing Nintendo even while her dad went in to audition. I was very impressed with her poise and good behavior while dad went through his sides and then into the room to audition. I can not see either of my 5 year olds being able to do that! LOL.
