Hey..I submitted a few months back when they were asking for headshots and resumes. My experience is pretty amateur, although I attend Stagedoor Manor, which I know they look upon favorably. I'm a 16 (just turned) year old boy and around 5'7, so I'm hoping I don't look too old. I look more along the lines of the LA Evan. We'll see, I guess! Thanks for the wishes!

The equity call is at 10 for boys and 11 for girls...I would think those would be the agency kids, no? The posting that went out to the camps, drama teachers, etc. said they are looking to cast all, but they have a specific need for to cast Evan, the lead. They said anyone who wants to be considered for Evan to send in your hs/resume asap and were taking messenger deliveries too. I don't know of any girls who submitted early that were called in. And yes, I have heard the same thing about Stagedoor Manor & French Woods kids that they are well liked and respected because both Jason Robert Brown and Todd Graff went there.

The first Evan was from Stagedoor and the one who did the LA show was a 17 year old boy from NY. In the reading, they had Stagedoor kids (and perhaps French Woods too).

jg6970, did you get to audition up at stagedoor? Break a leg and I'm sure your mom is glad she won't have to wait in Thursday's madhouse!

Louise, a few kids that wanted to audition for 13 heard about the CT auditions last minute so they called and were told that if they wanted to audition for 13 to just go on Thursday; however, if they missed the CT auditions for Goodspeed's shows (other than 13) they too would hold auditions in the city sometime this month...that's about all I know right now.

My daughter wants to audition for this show so bad, but after reading the postings, I am afraid that it might be a waste of time. She is non-equity, but has musical theatre experience in a small local summer playhouse where she has done shows for 3 years. She is 13 and has attended French Woods too. Problem is that she doesn't sing pop too well and we didn't know about this audition in time to get a pop song down. She has sung "Let's Hear It For The Boy" from Footloose - would that work? We also have never been to an open call of this magnitude before and I don't know if it would be too overwhelming. Any input or opinions you all have would be greatly appreciated! We do not live near the city and it would be a 2 1/2 hour commute in for us Thursday. I did send in her headshot and resume but have not received a call back. Thank you for your advice!

Thanks Medavinci. We don't have much experience with these type of auditions either. My daughter was seen in Ct. and was told by director there to audition for 13. We weren't sure what that meant but did get an email shortly there after that her info was being sent to casting in NY and that they would contact her if interested. She has been working hard on pop song in case they call but nothing as of yet.

Back in the fall after JRB had gone to several performing arts camps, people signed up on his website. He had all the casting info posted there, and it said if you were interested in auditioning send your headshot and resume to Mark Simon Casting. Apparently, they were deluged. They did have a callback in late fall of all the kids they saw up at the camps and some agency kids as well. These auditions were not posted anywhere, since they were considered callbacks. From there, they cast the reading.

My friend's daughter knows at least 20-30 kids that did send in their headshots & resumes in the fall, and not one of them has heard anything either. However, they were told to just go to the open call tomorrow anyway. They are looking specifically for the part of Evan which is why probably some of the boys got called in.

So the whole mystery is whether or not they have the rest of the show cast from the people who did the reading. The original plan was that some would be cast for the show from that group and others would not (this was according to someone close to the producers of the show and some agents and vocal coaches).

At the risk of sounding repetitive, I truly hope that they will cast some kids from the open call, and that this is not some kind of publicity stunt. So many kids are taking off from school to attend this audition, and it means a lot to them (not to mention all the parents who have to drive great distances).

I posted in the other forum that an actor friend of mine said if it is an EPA audition (which it is), and if it is like the adult auditions, then it is probably already cast. It is a required call from what my friend's teacher told her, but that they would like to cast from the open call as well.

So let's be optimistic and hope for everyone's sake, they really are seeking people. You have to think of Annie, Mary Poppins and American Girl to name a few - they were all cast from open calls...how else can you find undiscovered talent? And to find equity actors between 12-15, I'm not sure how big that pool actually is. They will go first tomorrow.

It's all random so everyone will just have to wait and see. At the very least, a lot of kids will see a lot of their friends and have a great time!

Break legs tomorrow!

We got there around 9:00 and there were already about fifteen other girls there. There were barely any boys, so the first twenty girls were called in with the couple of guys that showed up. Everyone seemed nice and there was alot of order towards the beginning. I auditioned and it went very well, then I went back to the waiting room to get my things and there were about 50 girls there talking and crowding and the monitor was practically being toppled by girls about to get called in to audition. Me and my mom had to squeeze out.

Anyone know when callbacks will be held, if at all?

I turned 14 in November and I sang "Things I'll Never Say" by Avril Lavigne. I noticed alot of girls had belting musical theatre standards so I was starting to get nervous that I picked a bad song until the monitor said that the CD was looking specifically for a pop/rock type song.
