DD has a callback for Mary Poppins and the casting director has suggested the kids should dress in an outfit that "suggests the period" or "will help the director see you in the production". So my question is kinda of nit-picky:

How much should you "dress the part"? Should you go subtle (i.e. a jumper with white shirt) or more overt? I found a dress that is very similar to one of the dresses used in the MP production. It's a different color and all, but does strongly suggest the costume. Is that too much?

Yes - I'm probably over-analyzing this - LOL!

Thx,
T

I've never been in a situation where we've been asked by a CD to dress a certain manner. Seems odd that a CD would suggest that.

I wouldn't suggest wearing anything that looks truly like a costume, but if it's a dress or jumper that your daughter would actually wear (even if not "everyday" wear), then that might be good. I do know that when Grey Gardens was first casting for Broadway they asked the girls for final callbacks also to dress "in the period" of the show . . .

Good luck with the callbacks!

Thanks ladies.

The dress is definately not a costume. It's a style many girls would wear, though not my daughter (she's more a jeans and abercrombie girl). I think it'll be okay Smiler

They're on their way over to Atlanta now... cross fingers for a good experience!
