I just got cast in a non-paying role, and I asked them to pay for gas because it was far away, and they said yes!

Thanks to those on this board that said I should ask!

My son just did this for a paying nonunion role as well. Always ask, you have nothing to lose! Here is a link for the latest IRS standard mileage rate

About the mileage chart, doesn't it have a lot to do with where you live and what you drive too? I did the math on my mileage, and it would have come out to about double what it cost me (and double what I was given).

of course, if you drive a long way, they should compensate you, imho. In my son's case, it's a small role in an indie feature, he told them he needed travel as we live about 100 miles from the location and he was willing to skip the role if they would not offer it. There was no hesitation on their part and he got what he asked for. So, in his case, he did get almost 50% more than the original rate. Don't forget, you are not just getting gas money, you are getting wear and tear on your vehicle/tires.

We did also get compensation for travel (gas and tolls) for one of my sons student films but not for another one. It all depends so you should definatly always ask. Its not a crzy ques with the way gas prices are today.

Agreed. Gas prices are crazy, so if they want somebody enough, travel should be included in package.
