Like many other people i am new at this.
so to get to the point i was wondering which casting/auditions sites are trustable. I looked through the board and saw actoracess, rossreport, central casting, and backstage. Is it worth signing up and if what should I sign up for?
Also are there any good agencies and acting schools in Santa Barbara?

Actorsaccess and backstage are great tools. Ross Reports is mainly an avenue to find CDs, Agents and such to submit (not necessarly a way to find an audition) but good to have none-of-the-less.

Central Casting is for extra work if you are interested in that.

Sorry I cant help you with what is around Santa Barbara though.

The sites I use are
lacasting
backstage
nowcasting
actorsaccess

There are probably more, but those are the ones you will find almost all the auditions. I do hear some people use craigslist, however I am not too familiar with that. You really need to use ALL of them. It seems like a lot of money but if you are any decent you will make your money back pretty quickly.

Dreamingoflions,
if you are willing to drive into the LA area, I recommend LAcasting. I have an account with both lacasting and actorsaccess. I feel like there are more auditions on lacasting for paying jobs than actorsaccess(not including breakdown serviceson AA).A lot of what is on these two is duplicates, so you can get away with just one. Plus they offer a lot more in add on services, cheaper.
Nowcasting is not worth it in my opinion, a lot of those castings are not high quality and the ones that are, are already on lacasting or actorsaccess the week before.
I would tell anyone considering craigslist to be very careful. There is no regulating, anyone can post an ad saying they are whoever. Very risky in my opinion.

You can try one service and add on if you need to. AA and LAC are the ones the agents use, so they get the castings the quickest as opposed to the recycled stuff on a lot of the other paid and free sites.

Nowcasting is worth it, they often have very good notices weeds, csi, etc. I have booked stuff through them and more than paid for the subscripttion.

Really??
I had a trial for them and at the time everything was old or student films. They must have improved their system.

Also another note on all the sites.
lacasting
actorsacess
backstage
nowcasting
You have to be on the 4 time a day at least. When you get up in the morning do any new submissions that are there and go over the last two days of breakdowns just in case you missed something. Do it again around 2:00 again at 7:00 and then before you go to bed. It has to be almost a full time job. That's how you get work.

I saw one on Craig's List for paid featured extras for the movie "Private Lives of Pippa Lee" and it disappeared the next day. I asked a show biz contact of mine and asked her if she knows if that film is coming to Seattle and she didn't hear anything, also I checked the imdb board and it's not on their shooting schedule (Seattle). She said that there's been alot of spam on craig's list lately.

You can also try the film departments of colleges and universities near you: film students often post things on their bulletin board, and actors can usually submit their headshot/resume at the film department's main office (if they keep a book of actor's materials).
