DD is auditioning for Jane in Mary Poppins next week. We just found out about the auditions and don't have a lot of time to prep new songs... but I was wondering what you think of these two possibilities:

Belle (from Beauty & the Beast)
Think of Me (from Phantom)

Belle seems a little cheesy, but is very Disney

Think of Me isn't as "disney", but shows her range better.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
T

Think of me seems a bit mature for Jane in MP. Might want to show a big of a younger sound.

Perhaps someone who went to the recent open call in NY can chime in...but I thought kids auditioning for Jane and Michael were taught the songs they needed to sing...either supercalifragilistic or Hurry Nanny.

dramamama - you're probably right on Think of Me. It was her voice teacher's suggestion b/c dd can really soar with it.

Do you think Belle is to ... "cliche"?

And kipmil - I'm hoping someone from the early NY auditions will chime in. Our call says bring 16 measures of your own song, but we should probably familiarize her wit supercal and Hurry nanny if that's what they're gonna be using!

I'll see if I can do a search and figure out who was at the NY call.

You do have to take into consideration what showcases your DD's voice. Song choice for auditions is always a tough call. Best of luck at the audition; let us know how it goes, as I think my DD will be going in on this soon as well.

MP auditions are this weekend, but DD used "belle" last weekend to audition for the Birmingham Children's Theatre and it went well. We haven't heard anything yet, but DD was very pleased with her selection and so was the accompanist, who she's worked with before.

Crossing fingers for Sunday's MP!
