hey guys, i can't make up my mind. i was wondering if you might help me choose a legit shot. i have been avoiding deciding for a while (it helped that i was in china for a while and forgot about it). but now i have to pick.

on stage, i tend to play teens through young adults. for example, i just u/s liesl/louisa in Sound of Music, but i have also played teenagers and potentially could play older young adults. in this scenario, usually they know they want 18TPY, so i don't need to pretend that I am really under age, they have said that they want older to play younger, so i dont necessarily need a shot to look 13but i also dont want to look "old".

on camera, i seem to play a bit older. i photograph older, i guess. i still play high school and college, but with the right clothes and make-up, can play older, closer to my real age. but lead roles? they tend to be in the 16-24 range.

so that's kind of me.

that said-

which of these? i can't stand looking at myself, so i can't choose. i've gotten feedback from friends who know me, and they all say one of the shots is "beautiful" and "you look like a movie star" and such (which sounds weird to hear), but i, of course, am leaning towards the other which didn't get as many positive responses.

these are unretouched and one is two variations on the same shot. please let me know what you think. i'm soooo torn.

also, i know pretty much what aspects *I* want retouched (for example, i hate the color of my lips in the first shot, but love the rest of it), but would love any feedback about retouching as well.

thanks in advance!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, your photographs suffer from poor lighting, and unfortunately do not do you justice.

You're obviously an attractive ingenue with potentially wonderful energy and All-American good looks, but none of these three headshots reflect that quality. These photographs, obviously taken with natural lighting in open shade, have given your skin an unhealthy, pallid skin tone, and your eyes, although a vivid blue and the focal point of your photographs, a "spooky" appearance. I have spoken at length (and evidently against the views of many of the natural light photographers who regularly post here) about the problems typically encountered when shooting outdoors with natural light. This is the all-too common result.

Professional retouching, although capable of correcting many flaws, will not address all of the major problems encountered with these headshots. You'll need to have them redone if you want to remain competitive in the marketplace.

There is no question that a properly executed headshot could transform your entire look, and your acting career as well.

As an advocate of natural light photography, I think these are beautiful shots. The cropping could be a little tighter but in my opinion these shots represent a range of characters that you could play. I would suggest getting some shots in a business suit because I could also see you playing a lawyer or some kind of administrator.
