I've been reading about how to break into the biz, but I do have some questions. I was seriously thinking about just sending headshots out to agents, but I'm just wondering if that's ever effective. Do they really look through all those envelopes and pictures of everyone? idk if I'll just be throwing my money away to send headshots to agents who won't even look at it. Any experience with this? Has anyone had success with this approach?

Also, is there a good time to send out packages w/pic and resume? Because I want to start as soon as I can, and I need to get headshots. Is there a particular time that's best or can I just send them out whenever I'm ready?

And I'm 18 but I've been told I look 13. Should I submit myself to agents that rep children or agents that rep adults? because I don't know that I particularly want to encourage people thinking that I'm so much younger than I am. And if I present myself as younger, is it ok for me to go to casting calls that specify, say 13-15 even though I'm not?

Thanks so much in advance for the advice! I really appreciate it Smiler

You have an advantage if you are 18 and look 13.

Many productions will choose to hire someone 18 or older to play a minor because:

1. SAG has many rules about working with minors including a shortened work day; and during school months, the child must be tutored. This adds to the cost and so productions often look to hire someone over 18 who looks younger.

2. If a production hires a minor, they have to deal with a parent or guardian on the set and that can (not always!) be a hassle.

3. Some producers will feel that an actor over 18 is better able to handle the stresses of the shoot than a minor. It's not always true, but that's the perception.

So, looking young is a good thing! It will also prolong your career.

Good luck!
