I'm a headshot photographer based in Chapel Hill, NC. Many of my clients are starting to be submitted to CD's in LA and NY. As I'm way outside the big market I'd appreciate any and all feedback about my work. I'm trying to stay current with what's getting attention in the big ponds. Not an easy task for someone so distant but that's my job. Thanks in advance.
I think overall they are good pictures great lighting but there are some distracting aspects in some. Such as the shirts w/ paterns or necklaces spiked hair or a chair in the backround. Also a lot of the people seem to be arched over which is okay sometimes but it seemslike you do it to often. More SMILES!! there was one girl with her hair in her face. You couldn't see her pretty face. over all your headed in the right direction. There a place you can look for photographers on backstage.com. Check out there websites and get some ideas. Best of luck NickJ'sgirl

Lawrence, Pretty good work. I think you need to take it a step further and strongly suggest a MUA and Hairdresser. It would bring your work up to the NYC and LA market expectations. Attention to detail is important too. Such as background and clothing. Overall you are in a good place to go further. I made the mistake lately of taking my budding star for a haircut instead of his hair dresser. Yes, my 13 yo son has a hairdresser. Man, I never heard the end of it! So, that is the expectation of your clients. Good Luck.
I think your work is very solid and professional. Just try to avoid too much posing with the hands as many industry hate that I have noticed (I used to have pics like that) and a lot of actors did that in the 80's so it can look a little posed and forced. Not natural. I mean, noone actually walk saround with their hands in their face, do they? You want them to look very natural. The photos should be relaxed and have a comfortable feel to them. You really have done a great job over all. Just be CONSISTENT with your work. That is where too many people, actors incuded- mess up. Alway deliver to the expectations of your client. They work damn hard for their money. And don't EVER suggest to women they should get some "mom" photos!!! If they want that, they will ask. Listen, communicate-- LISTEN to what they are asking for. Just LISTEN. Good luck.
