Thought I'd start this thread, focusing on good information, samples and links to writing good cover letters for submitting to agents and casting directors. Please feel free to add any helpful tips or links to cross reference, so we can create a thread that will help anyone with cover letter questions. With all the info in one place, it will be easier for others to find.
I am planning on sending out my resume/headshot through Backstage to a bunch of places that are currently casting right now. I'm confused as to whether or not I should send out a cover letter, and if so, then what should it say? Would I have to look up every place I'm applying and personalize the letter to them? I'm looking for a part, not representation.

Did you read all the columns? Yes, it's best to personalize the letters. They don't need to be long, actually they shoud be very short and to he point. Remember, this is a business and you are the CEO of your business, which is you. You want to be as professional as possible. You want CDs to see you've done your homework and are representing yourself the best way possible.

I did read the links, and they were very helpful, but I couldn't get a clear idea of whether I need to send out cover letters for places that are casting specific roles that I fit.
