I'm about to do my first mass mailing and send my pic to casting directors and agents.

I was about to print compcards but someone told me that compcards was just for modeling and not for acting and that i wouldn be taken seriously if i sent that.
this person told me i should just sent that one regular headshot which is the insdustry standard for acting. but now some other person told me i could send compcards. kind of confused in here.

the thing is i think on a compcard is better because it shows many roles you could play.

what should i do?

Your first friend was correct.

Submit 8x10's for legit acting roles and comp cards for print/modeling submissions.

More and more, comp cards are becoming acceptable for commercial submissions as well.

comp cards are for models and 8 x 10's are for actors.

That is the industry standard at the moment. You will appear as if you haven't done your homework. When it really comes down to it though I think if they like the way you look it doesn't matter what you send them. Sometimes inexperience goes hand in hand with a non jaded actor, who is fresh and inspired. Standards change and there is a good reason for it, and it does make sense to send a bunch of different looks if thats the type of talent they are looking for.

I wouldn't recommend it though. I would send 8x10's

There's still a prejudice that models can't act ... so it is a bit risky to submit a comp card for an acting role.

Stick with the 8 by 10!

Good luck.

I have been thinking about this as well. I just sent my headshot to a couple of commercial agents, hoping that someone will bite... however, I am also about to send my pictures to a couple of casting directors (Background Inc and others) who have cast me for commercial background in the past. In this case, is it appropriate to send a lifestyle/commercial print comp card in lieu of a headshot? They already know I am a model, and I figured a comp card gives you the chance to show off more "characters", which might help in the case of b/g casting?

To clarify why I need to send something in the first place, given that they already hired me for some projects: they found fashion pictures of me online and contacted me based on those. I would like to send them some lifestyle shots for their files and also take the opportunity to thank them for booking me in the first place.

comp card for models, headshots (with resume attached) for actors.

To be truthful,

some CD or AGENTS also work with print.

so in BG inc's case, they have casted print work before, and also acting work in commercials. if they ask for a comp card, then give them one.

it all depends on who you send it to. if they just do acting, (buckwild legit dept) send the headshot, if they just do modeling (ford) send compcard.

I find it hard to find any CD or Agent who wont do both, money is money and everyone wants some.

the real difference is that the 8x10 has your resume in the back, meanwhile a comp card just have photos of you in the back.

the back of the comp card shows tear sheets, its work that proves you are experienced,

the back of the headshot is your resume, which shows your experience.

the front is just a picture of your head.
