hi everyone. i was recently accepted into a summer program in the city. for our first day, they need us to put together a resume and headshot. i don't have headshots yet, i am planning on getting them later this year, but not in time for the summer. they said we didn't have to spend money on headshots if we don't have them. a black/white or color snapshot is acceptable. i was hoping someone could let me know the "do's and don'ts" of taking a snapshot for this type of thing. i've taken a few, but they aren't amazing, obviously.
basically, i'm just looking for some help as to what i should and should not do when using a snapshot.
i would really appreciate your help ! thank you !

Dear madds,

If it's only a snapshot, quality really doesn't much matter.

Most beginners shoot their headshots outdoors. Simply get under a tree or in open shade, and take you photo there. This will drastically reduce your eyes' tendency to squint on a sunny day. Make sure you position yourself against a plain background, and you're good to go!

If you decide to take it indoors, just make sure your camera is in the "FLASH" mode.

"Whatever works."

Madds,

Congratulations, and enjoy the program.

BTW, Robert's advice is sound.

Thank you so much, both of you !

i just have one more question, how zoomed in should it be ? i have one that i really like, but i'm afraid that because a little bit of the top of my head is cut off, it won't be acceptable.

again, thank you ! =]

It's hard to be sure not seeing the photo, but cutting off part of the top of the head in a headshot shouldn't be a problem. In fact, in some shots it helps. Since this is for a summer program where they've said the shot isn't important, I really wouldn't worry.
