So here's the deal, I've been out of the game for a little while. Okay...a long while. I was so broke when I moved to NYC that I didn't give acting a fair shake, and I eventually fell for the siren song of a steady paycheck, and acting went by the wayside. Last month, surrounded by money hungry finance types at a business trip, it dawned on me that I am completely miserable. I immediately came home and re-subscribed to Back Stage. My headshots were almost two years old, so naturally I needed new ones. During my hiatus, I managed to pack on quite a few pounds, which I am rapidly doing (insert self-tooted horn sound here). I didn't want to drop a lot of cash on interim pics, so I just went up on my roof and shot some ad hoc pics of myself. It's quite tricky to shoot one's self, and convey any emotion while holding a remote in one hand and a reflector in another! But like I said, gotta save some cash. So any (constructive) feedback on whether I should feel embarrassed submitting this as my headshot would be appreciated. Thanks!

You've got great eyes. Nice looking guy, pretty marketable. But your in NYC! One of the acting capitals. Your competing against people with GREAT headshots. like, great.
You're absolutely right, Morgin. I know I need new pics. I just hope that this'll suffice for a few months. And by the way, I'm thoroughly expecting that anything you say is right, and if your advice fails miserably, I'm holding you completely responsible!

I'm not in the business, but at least I'm sueable. Since you're taking your own picture, I assume it's cheap enough to try again. The flesh colored edge of the roof probably shouldn't be right behind your face. Also, your ears are too red. Your lips may be a little too red too. It's all a little too fleshy. Almost raw and clammy looking. You still look good, but maybe some makeup or wait for warmer weather or shoot indoors.

thanks for the feedback baro. i thought the exact same thing about the roof color & my skin tone being too similar. and yes, it was a very overcast day. not to mention freezing! (hence the pink ears) unfortunately, this shot was the best of the bunch. sad, i know. maybe i'll go into photoshop and throw on a warming filter.
this shot's only going to have to last a few months, i just wanted to make sure nobody thought it was TOTALLY unusable. thanks again for the feed back. and i won't sue...probably.
