12 year old daughter's headshot that was not professionally done. Opinions appreciated. This kid changes so fast I'd hate to have professional shots done unless it is necessary at this point. Thanks!

She's got a great look!!

I don't think this photo will help her, however, because her smile looks a bit forced and there's no life in her eyes. If you don't want professional shots, keep trying until you get one where her personality shines through.

Good luck.

I'm not a photographer but I don't love the background. The house siding (i think) doesn't do anything for me. Maybe take her to the park?

Hi MomtoEm,

I also agree about your daughter's eyes. It was the first thing I noticed about the shot, they appear a bit lifeless. I also think a deeper color shirt would help bring out all of her features.

Good luck, she is darling,
Snow

yeah, this wont do.

Maybe you stressed her out too much in the shooting, but she does NOT look into it
Next time try to go for a more relaxed shoot... tell her it's looking beautiful (even if its not) and then go out for icecream or something after.
This shot just looks tense.

she looks 18, forget about the acting, and have her go modeling.

She's got a sweetness and I love her freckles!
Try to capture a "real" moment, where she is just herself, instead of posing. Smiles are great, but only if they come spontaneously - a warm, serious expression is fine, too. I would also try a different background, best to keep it out of focus. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for all the opinions. I think I've come to the conclusion that she needs professional shots done. Mom as photographer just isn't working anymore. We're going to bite the bullet and go for the professional. After reading many of the posts here it seems the right way to go. I am so glad I found this site!

Shoot her indoors facing a window without a flash and you should be able to get more life in her eyes!
