Just discovered this board after poking around the site. I thought of asking here because everyone seems really competent on what the industry accepts and rejects.

Ok, so I've just started pursuing acting full time in NYC. This is my working headshot. I say "working" because, before getting them professionally done (which is very soon), this is what I have come up with to temporarily get me by on short notice. My resume has backed me up before but obviously a picture is worth a thousand words. Just recently, I got call back from a CD who supposedly took a chance on me because underneath the amateur, industrial urbanness of my headshot, she saw a cute kid that could potentially be someone she's looking for. Now I don't know if that was a good or bad thing, but I'm increasingly leaning towards scrapping the whole thing and starting from scratch. I could have just gotten all of my past interviews and jobs out of sheer luck. I don't know.

Anyway, do you guys think people will take me seriously with this, or will I just be labeled as another "green" actor who has a lot to learn about the industry. My first impression, it's probably too model-y to get me anywhere, plus the hood covers everything. Should I even go for this approach? All opinions and suggestions are welcome.

This is unacceptable.

1. Your head is covered by the hood. Your head and hair needs to be visible.

2. You're topless underneath that sweatshirt. Unless you're going for a stripper or adult genre, I wouldn't take this seriously.

This is not a professional headshot.

That does not mean it's a bad picture or that you don't have a good look, but it does say pretty clearly to a director or a producer that you are very green.

I've seen enough to know that anything can happen. So it's entirely possible that you might get called in for an audition from this shot. But the question is what is going to give you the best probability of getting called in. And a professional headshot will GREATLY (and I mean greatly) increase your chances.
