I'd just love to hear anyone's thoughts on the headshot included.

Thanks!

The most obvious issue with this headshot is in the yellowish color of the light.

While it was apparently the photographer's decision to create a feeling of "warmth," he went overboard-- it needs to be reduced.

A good headshot, but I'd like to see a little more energy and intent in your expression.

too dark on the right, he needs to put a reflector on the other side for more uniform lighting, remember a headshot is not art, its a product shot of your head. ppl need to see what you look like, not half your face hidden in mystery...

It's nice. You just need a very simple color-correction.

See what I mean, MiniK?

I don't agree with NYC Actor that the shadow on the far side is a major issue. If necessary, that can be alleviated by anyone with even a passing knowledge of Photoshop as well, but I don't see it as a problem.

Yeah, a shadow on the face is often called out as a no-no, but really it's only "bad" if it's hiding part of your face and keeping us from being able tell what you really look like.

Often times shadows or multiple light sources are good because they help to showcase your bone structure and give people a better idea of what you'll look like on film, which straight-on light often fails to do.

it almost has a jekyll/hyde feel.

screen left: your hair is perfect, the collar is straight/up, (the button is distracting, i'd edit it out)

screen right: your hair is messy, collar down and "flowy"...

it almost seems like (if you can imagine this) the screen left side of your body is smashed against an invisible wall while the right side is "flowing"

i know i know, this sounds WEIRD, but that was the first thing i noticed.

not that headshots should be completely symmetrical, but that is what caught my eye right off the bat. seemed strange to me. but that's just me.

and i agree with dennis's editing, looks MUCH better!

I'm something of a perfectionist myself, but when you begin to take a headshot apart to this degree of nano-detail, it becomes counter productive. It becomes less about the actor and more about issues that have nothing to do with your photo's ability to actually generate work.

There should always be a "happy medium" between getting everything "just right" and being unnecessarily anal.

A busy casting director only has time to give your headshot a fleeting glimpse, and although stylistic intracacies have their place, they actually play a minor role in a truly effective headshot.

I kind of love it.
I like DK's color correction with maybe just a little more warmth.

ok, the picture is bad because you cant see easily the shape of the dudes face. look at his pic, and the dennis color change, tell me you can see the shape of his left chin.

tell me you can see the true shape of his left eye. with out straining of course.

I cant see it, its a bad picture, he needs to move the light to the front so we can see his face for real. This isnt a portrait to hang behind his desk.. its a headshot, you gotta be able to see the face.

true, but if it's the first thing *I* noticed, than it could be the first thing others notice. and i'm not saying it's even a bad thing, just interesting. he asked for feedback, and that was the first thing i noticed. fair enough to mention, i think.

but i would still remove that button. it's very distracting.
