Ok, that's an excellent point...that's why I asked...just didn't know what the options were so I could just drop a sheet in the printer and be done with it. Now I know.

Guess I'm not alone in being "lazy" anyway...

It's not about being LAZY. It's about what is COST EFFECTIVE. That is the mindset you have to get into.

6 or 7 hundred? I repeat- damn!

I would say less than $200 is about right for 300 headshots.

I guess my whole point here is when you are starting out, it is common to do things easier. BUT it is not cost effective, you see. You are going to find that over the years this business gets beyond EXPENSIVE and you will quickly see that to sustain yourself, you need to look for a thrifty but professional way to do everything.
It seems like nothing now- an extra $50 here or there. But I am TELLING you it will add up FAST. Unless you are wealthy, in which case Godspeed and share with us please, then it is important to watch your $$$ every step of the way.

You idea would be close to $80 or so for 500 resumes. The way I proposed is $0 to do the same thing. If you choose to cut and staple, that is still only $5-$10 versus what you proposed doing.

Any way you count it, that is a substantial savings.

You know how people get rich? They count their pennies and never waste money. We could learn a lot from the Asians, for example.

My husband taught me to save and the value of a dollar.

I am glad he did. Smiler

I don't know what's the big deal about ordering 100 pre-cut sheets of resume quality 8 x 10 paper off of that website. We don't understand Newbie's situation. She may live out in podunk and have 5 kids and piling them all up in a van may be just too much for her. Or she may be in a wheelchair and gets everything delivered to her house cause it's inconvenient to go to Staples. We don't know. What I do know is that she is looking for a place to get 8 x 10 paper and I emailed her a site. I didn't give her a piece of advice that she may or may not have wanted. With that said, I just went to Staples myself. I found resume paper, which was about $8 for 100 sheets, but I bought 250 sheets cause it was a better deal, went to the copy center and had the person cut it for me, which takes 2 cuts, at a total cost of $4. Since I had my kids with me, my eleven year old had to have the really cool locker kit that sells out by the time school starts, which was $12, and the dip and sticks that my 3 1/2 year old had to have because she hadn't had her nap, which was another $2, and then I found Bounty paper towels for $5. So, today, I spent $50 for odds and ends that I really didn't need. I spent about an hour door-to-door to get something that I could have purchased on line in 2 minutes. And I would have paid $13.29 ($6 shipping and handling). Sometimes when you have minimal time, those few extra dollars are worth spending. And sometimes, people with names like NEWBIE are looking for simple advice, not sarcasm, or degrading comments. People starting out in this business are looking for advice, not humiliation. There are really big issues in this business and these NEWBIES shouldn't be made to feel stupid, or lazy for asking a simple question.

Here's what my post was-

- honest
- to the point
- helpful

Here is what it did NOT-

- degrade her
- humiliate her
- possess sarcasm
- imply that she is stupid/lazy

Don't be quick to criticize me because I am am lucky enough to have been taught the value of a dollar.

That's the bottom line here- being cost effective. That's what my post was about.

The advice I gave her was golden and even Blind Freddy would see that.

We can twist words here, hell, even make stuff up and pick fights every day about CRAP if we choose. Or NOT.

Newbie- I was trying to give you some well-intended advice, nothing more, nothing less.
No insult was intended at all. I am sure you didn't take it that way. You seem pretty on the level.

Godspeed. Smiler

Good girl. Sorry about your new job. Working in that kind of business is tough. After graduating from college I worked as a cocktail waitress and it was tough. Like being the new kid in high school. I laid low, refilled the condiments on the service bar and made friends with the bartender. No one is going to stay in that business any longer than they have to.

Geeze that's a rip off. A whole REAM (500 sheets) of hammermill 8.5x11 is only $5.59

http://www.officedepot.com/a/p...dal-MP-Copy-Paper-8/

Then just take it to ANY print shop for 2 cuts, typcially costing about $1 each, and you have 500 sheets of 8x10 Hammermill for 7.59

Yea, Actorpaper is marking it up 500%. Wow what a racket.

Yup, ya live and ya learn...BTW, this post was started back in June, and I still have about 20 sheets of the 8 x 10 paper left, so the cost wasn't really TOO bad...

Funny how most of the auditions we've been going to don't even want head shots anymore...they either take their own shots at their little computer and make a card for you to fill out...or they just tell ya "no headshot needed"...

That being said, when this paper DOES finally run out, you can bet Miss Stone's pet monkey I'll just go to Staples, buy a ream, and get it cut...

Hey, I picked the name "newbie here" for a reason...to poke fun at myself for not knowing the little things like this...and I would STILL like to thank those that give good advice without being insulting...

Good thinking. I suggest Kinko's over Staples. The equipment is so state-of the-art. I also make the request that they cut 7.99 X 9.99. I would prefer the paper to run a little smaller than the headshot rather than larger. Someone on this board called me anal for doing that. Oh, well. It's working for me.
