The shadows are because the lighting is bad. Not digging this at all. Sorry.

The shot you posted is poorly lit, throwing shadows across your face. This is a very tough fix in photoshop. You'd do better to reshoot.

Good luck.

yep, you guys are right
no wonder I was disliking it. will put up some new ones tomorrow. third time's the charm and all.
it is actually hard where I am, because there are NO headshot photographers, and even though I make them check out examples, they don't seem to get it.......

THere are two in particular that I love, expression wise and would love to keep. The problem? For some effed up reason, my skin looks like crap and there seem to be dark circles under my eyes.... This is a problem because I actually have pretty nice skin and no dark circles. Do you think this could be fixed with retouching or should I just try to get the same idea on a new shoot?

If you can post them here, it could help many others with the same problem.

I remember you! You're the Frida Khalo girl.

Thanks for posting your photo. The good news is, retouching can easily fix the under eye problem. All of your skin issues can be totally repaired. But there are far more problems with this headshot than that.

You'll need to try again. Mexico City and LA have many top pros, but Costa Rica is only good for getting your tan on.

Post your new ones here when they're done for more input.

Thanks for your input guys....
I will post the new ones. My idea right now is to get decent headshots and then go for another headshot session, with a headshot pro, in LA, at the end of july.

barbarab- in terms of expression and type I think it is great- your shots are gonna be awesome when you shoot with a better photog.
