no, this isnt an acceptable headshot. Youre fingers like that is ridiculous and you're cheeks are like whited out. This isnt a headshot.

You're a good looking guy who could do LOTS better. The hand is a no go. This image is just without any real emotion. life or connection. Go to reproductions.com and do some research. Make a short list of photographers who do work that you think fits you. Call them and schedule a meeting. Good luck. You can do so much better.

what do you consider a small fortune? You dont need to spend 800-1000 dollars to get good headshot. However, being cheap will only be a waste of money. You should be prepared to invest at least 300 dollars. You can absolutely get great headshots for 200-400 dollars. The investment is worth it.

If you were wearing a tux this would be like a good James Bond poster... :-)

There are ways to position hands so that they aren't distracting...but the way this one is placed dominates the entire photo.

Were there any other photos from this shoot? There might be a better shot you can use in the meantime while you're waiting on new photos.

You can find ACCEPTABLE photographers at:
REPRODUCTIONS.COM

Go through the books and look at photographers who photograph people like you well. Ie. Skin tone, ethnicity, hair color, eye color, age range, physical structure, etc. Choose your top 5 and meet with ALL of them! You want to get their philosophies and their personalities. You certainly don't want to work with someone whose personality sucks for you.

Although, I've never met with a photographer before hand. I don't have the gas money/time. It's never turned out horrible... Then again I get along or atleast tolerate most personalities so I guess I never noticed.

PS, Get rid of the gelmet. It's not a good look for a headshot, 1. And 2 it'll keep you typecasted.

Its a rough time to have to shell out a lot of money for new headshots! Unfortunately you do kid Roll Eyes---As Did I...My advice is to pay for quality upfront so they will last you awhile. There are also some good/cheap companies that will reprint for pretty cheap.

I just tried this company theprintcollective.net and was very happy- 70$ for 100 head shots!

I'm assuming you got a print of all the shots taken during this shoot? Find one just like this but without your hand in the way with you facing the camera as you are. I would also take a computer photo program most computers come equipped with one, and crop the shot so it's more about your face and less about the background. Otherwise, your face and top of your shoulders would have been fine as the full focus of the shot.

I think by "gelmet" she meant gel-helmet. Which is kind of brilliant. Did you just come up with that? I'm going to have to start using that!

No gelmet has been around for a few years, lol. Mostly among bitchy girls.

The hair, dray. It is dated and all it says is hoodlum. It'll be typecasted and it wont do much for you.

Dray, I would not worry about the typecasting thing. If you have other shots that were taken along with this one, find one that looks very similar but without your hand under your chin.

One thing in this business is if you ask for constructive advice, be prepared to hear it but take it with a grain of salt. In the end, you have to start learning to trust your gut.

Your pic is fine, your hair is fine. The only thing messing it up is your hand under your chin. You would be hired for any high school looking role, even Gossip Girl.
