The background is quite busy but it's not too bad.
I think a suit is wrong for your casting/age group. You can play younger. I would like to see you in some colors and smiling with a white background to make you pop. A more sparky shot, you know?

The background is too interesting for a headshot -- I'm more interested in figuring out where you are than looking at you.

The suit is cute, but I agree you should probably go for younger. I could deal with the suit, but with the tie undone and sloppy or something.

Your expression needs to be more "alive" -- it feels like you are sort of passive, just waiting for the shot to be taken.

Agreed. The background is incredibly distracting in this shot. It seems low energy and a bit disconnected; it would be great to see you be a bit warmer and more alive.

"Swing and a miss" haha

Thanks for the feedback. I'll get my headshot right one of these days. Sounds like the lessons to learn for next time are:

-lose the background distractions
-look alive :-)

Yes! Look alive. One of the best ideas. You have to have an opinion about what your doing other than "don't be nervous" or "is this a good pose"

Hey I know you from Pointer;s class!

The background is distracting, and you are much livelier in person. I think you can do better, but this might work well enough for a while.

Also, in person you have a young energy.. I wouldn't go for the suit look quite yet, unless its one of like 3 looks.

You connect well to the camera, but the lighting and background and styling, as stated by others, aren't doing any favors for you.

Good luck!

I think it's a decent headshot. The background isn't as bad as many have suggested, it's the form of that building, it draws the focus from your eyes. I would photoshop that building out, sharpen the overall image, touchup the hot-spot on your forehead and soften the shadow under your chin. All of which can be done in a simple photoshop session.

Good luck!

Hey,
First of all, you have a great face for photos. You're unquestionably a handsome man. Yet, the background is competing with your face in the photo. That makes it seem like a photo you take while traveling. Also, I feel that you're not revealing the inner you in the photo. I think the headshots would come out better if you release your energy and have a greater smile in the photo. But that's just my viewpoint. All the best!

Sincerely,
Julie Chase
