Picture of Sad is happy for deep people...
Posted
This was done about a year ago.
My hair is longer now due to a production, but that will be cut soon. :-)
I've had some great feedback but one question was brought up...
There is another shot of me (I don't have it, the photographer does) that is also very good, but much more playful. We decided to go with this one, but should I have the other one handy for parts that might be more comedic? Or would this suffice for both?

This is NOT very good. Who lied to you?

Why?
1. Dark hair and black shirt with a black background was an idiot move on the photographer's part.

2. Unless you commonly get called as as an "edgy, street" character, the piercings and chain necklace are limiting.

3. Way too much shadows and poor lighting.

I was watching your "dating" slate and based on the fun, likeable guy, personality you give off in it, this photo does no justice for you.

If you want something that you would use for more comedic situations, you should be clean shaven and look like you in your interview slate.

I agree. I think it's not a very good actor pic. It's a dramatic, artful pic. But it's not a good headshot. First, it doesn't represent you. (I also had a look at your "actor slate reel" -- you need to get a picture of THAT guy.) Do you still have that facial hair? You don't have it in the video. If not, it doesn't show who you are today.

This picture will only market you as an edgy somewhat scary guy. Your video doesn't seem like that guy at all.

With your extensive theatre background, particularly the classical plays, I'm guessing you might be a pretty good actor. (Take "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" - Extra" OFF your resume. I wouldn't put "More available on request" on each category unless you've got a lot more.) Also, since you've played "Axel" in "The Nerd", I'm guessing (hoping) that you're a funny guy.

So... a pretty good looking guy, who happens to be 6'4", with classical theatre background, who appears charming and personable, and might even be good with comedy. Sounds like a winner! You need a photo that shows some of THAT. Your current pic will only really be good to show in some Rolling Stone Magazine retrospective of your career. Tha's what I think.

Thank you both for the great (and brutal and honest) feedback. Smiler
I'm IMing a photographer friend now about maybe re-doing some stuff and since he's the guy that did my slate (and will be doing my reel when I get it all together) it should hold the same feel....

Boradway... thanks for the resume suggestion too, I'll change that. I see you are familiar with "The Nerd"

I agree with the other posters. A cool arty pic but not good for a headshot.

Gotta give it thumbs down - not natural, seems very staged, and the background is terrible.
