Can I get opinions on this as my commercial headshot? I am still in the deciding process but leaning towards this one:

Thanks!

Oh p.s. this has not been touched-up, it's straight off the press!

And leaning towards this one for theatrical (but that's a bit further down the line):

I don't like how both are cropped way too close. The problem with landscape cropping is when you post them online on Actors Access, LA/NY Casting, etc. landscapes show up smaller compared to portrait style headshots. The casting director receives 1000s of tiny thumbnails when receiving submissions, so a landscape crop is difficult to notice compared to the many portrait styles.

Also, the cropping doesn't show enough of your body. It's important, especially commercially that agents and CDs can see at least the upper part of your torso so they can fairly judge your physical appearance.

Your theatrical shot looks to commercial/charactery. You need a more intense and serious look for theatrical. The expression here is too limiting in my opinion.

Lastly, you're too gorgeous to be wearing your hair like that. You should have gotten a stylist or combed it neater.

Thanks, I will take that into consideration. I did have a stylist - the photog will crop the flyaways and i think that will make a big difference.

thanks!

I was just looking through my commercial possibilities again and this one might solve the issues that you mentioned Eldorado. what do you think?

I am not really loving any of these. The colors are very washed out and the pictures all have a faded look to them that just does not pop. I'm sure much of that could be corrected in Photoshop, but they still don't have all that much depth to them. Also there is some definite tension in your face (especially the 2nd and 4th shots), that the photographer probably should have tried to direct you away from. Your facial expression is best in the 2nd smiling shot (the first one you are smiling with your mouth, but look bored in your eyes). With some minor cropping up, out of these, that seems to be your best bet.

I'm not crazy about them either, they just don't "pop" for me.

Thanks for your input - I have a lot of shots to choose from and am going to take my time choosing since I'm going to be submitting these to agents. Another option for commercial:

And theatrical (though I'm aware the hair-up may present a problem since agents want to see your hair right?: (once again none of these have been retouched so any lighting issues will be corrected)

Hi there,

You don't seem to be smiling naturally with your eyes in any of your commercial shots.

I agree with Eldorado about the second shot being a little too charactery with the lips pursed the way they are.

With your vertical shots, there's way too much dead space. In the 3rd picture your body and shoulders just seem to hang there like you're bent over with your arms limp at your sides...almost...like a monkey.

With the last two shots, there just seems to be a lot of flat space in your chest area. The necklines are very low and that empty space takes attention away from your face.

Shot 4 just doesn't seem very flattering.

Off all the shots I guess I would go with the first one...but crop it a bit if the way it displays as a thumbnail on casting websites concerns you.

Hope that is helpful!
