Hello, I wanted all of your opinions on this. I just got headshots taken, and don't particular think my smile showing teeth is that great. However, there is a picture of me with a little smirk to the side that I think captures my personality very well for that moment. Can you get away with a commercial headshot that doesnt show teeth, but still shows a smile? Or is it dire that you have to show your teeth in this commercial picture?

It is highly suggested but not always necessary. It often depends on what type of commercials you are going for. The coach for my commercial class said that he always got more calls with his theatrical shot than with his commercial shot. Either way you should try to get at least 1 good smiling shot.

I get called in for commercials on my theatrical non smiling shot much more often than my smiling shot. I rarely get called in with the smiling shot for commericals, actually.

It depends on the project and type of commerical. I would have a smiling shot taken, however. A relaxed smiling shot, not a forced smile.

I think if the slight smirk shot is more natural, then that is the better bet. The shot should be natural and reflect YOU. Good to have a smiling shot as well, as long as it looks natural and not 'put on'.

If even you think that you look more natural with a smirk, then go with it. Maybe you're smiling with your eyes? Go with what reps you best. My d had a picture with her smiling and showing her brand new teeth without braces and it was hilarious cause it was so unnatural.
