You'll have to do that research yourself. No one knows anything about you. Get a list, from wherever, then log on to IMDBpro and start looking them up.

Get a ROSS REPORTS and do some research.

Don't just waste time and money by doing a "mass mailing" to anyone and everyone.

Do a targeted mailing. Maybe send out 10 headshots a week to agents that you've researched and put time into writing a quality cover letter to them.

I assume that you have already read MOMINBIZ's thread on TEENS GETTING STARTED (not shouting - the thread title is in caps)and understand what you're up against.

Hey Guys,
RE: the mass mailing thing. We must do it and it sucks, but there is an easier way. I have to say, I have tried doing them myself and it never worked out because I was so lazy and I had no idea what to write and how to market myself.

Then finally I tried this small company in the valley called Smart Girls Productions. They re-did my cover letter and did a package to mail my headshots out to 125 agents, it was a targeted list. It takes a while to put together everything but in the end, I got 6 meetings and I got signed to 2 VERY reputable agencies. And obviously, your pics should be in good shape. But they give you consultation with that too. It's a GREAT service.

My friend just sent the first installment of his mailing and he already has three meetings.
Try them out!

1. You shouldn't waste your time mailing to 125 agencies. The message boards talk about which agencies NOT to waste your time with.

2. Mailing them yourself would have cost you WAY less than those ridiculous prices above.

3. Were those two agencies Michael Zanuck and Dedicated?

4. "Melody completed her Ph.D. in Mythological Studies from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, California."

Someone with some stupid PH.D which means nothing from some non-prestigious institution is automatically qualified to manage your career?

I just want to puke when people try to sell something at a ridiculous price when it's totally unnecessary!

Do you think the agents really read their mail and look at all the thousands of headshots people send in? I don't think so. And chances are they won't call you in based on just a headshot and resume you sent in. That's so 1980's. You need to get yourself in front of them, not just your picture.

That's not neccessarily true Marissa. I sent out headshots and resumes to about five agents and got called in for a meeting with a great, reputable agent.

Have to agreeSmiler

Unsolicited mailings are always a crap shoot. But when the agency gods are with you, your photo/resume will be looked at by someone, somewhere.

Maybe this is the case in NY, but not in L.A. In L.A. you get meetings by sending your headshot resume or by referral. It's not as easy in L.A. as it might be in NY putting yourself in front of them unless there's a showcase held by some well known acting school. You can tell agents to come to your theatre show in L.A,, but they will most likely NOT come. They have lives and don't want to sit on the terrible freeways of L.A.

I have been called in four times to four good agencies by mailing in my headshots! It works if you send in a good pic, good cover letter, send to the agencies that are in your range and are looking for your type. AND you prove that have what it takes when you are in front of them...you can be negative, or you can act. meaning take action!

good luck all, you can do it!!

So actinggenius, which package did you and your friends pay for?

And what two "reputable" agencies signed you?

i did an actor bundle and i got signed by the brass agency and house of reps. and i HAVE been contacted by ZPP and DEDICATED but that was through LACASTING and they contacted ME. I said no thank you!!!

my friend did just one simple mailing a la carte. i am not sure what agencies have responded to him, but i think one was good reputation and he was excited.

In my case, I needed help getting new photos, figuring out how to market myself, and strategy. It was very valuable for me.

My friend is a very seasoned actor with a lot of credits and just needed some help puttin' it together and sendin' the thing out.

Either way, it was really positive for both of us.

If you got the motivation, I say MORE POWER TO YA!!
