Hi everyone! I just found this website, and am already loving it! Im vey new to all of this, and find everything here very informative. Anyway, I was doing a photoshoot for a friend of mine the other day, and am thinking/hoping that this picture will work as a headshot. My biggest concern is the lighting, he was going for kind of a dramatic look, so the side of my face is kind of shadowed (as you can see). Also after reading through a couple of posts on here I kind of got the notion that black and white headshots are out. Is that the case? lol I do have this one in color, Im just partial to black and white (of course at the end of the day its not about what I like now is it, hehe). Anyway, sorry for writing a book, I would love to get your opinions on the pic itself, as well as my "look"! Any feedback would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks a bunch, and have a wonderful day!

P.S. Im really hoping this comes out at a decent size too lol Ive never posted a pic on a forum before, and ended up having to scale it down because the origional file size was too big. Fingers crossed!

You are correct that there is too much of your face in shadow.

That shirt could also do with an iron.

I love those blue eyes, though. See, I almost missed them due to the lighting and that would be a terrible waste of those peepers!! Wink

Your head is turned too far into the shadow and your forehead and lips both look a bit tense.

Also, if you're doing the loosened-tie just-off-work look, it should be a more relaxed-looking or even commercial smiling shot.

Too much shadow across your face. Dennis is correct -- you look tense. And your shirt and tie are a wrinkled distraction.
