Hi everyone! I've been a major lurker on these forums and would appreciate any feedback. I got them only a little while ago and I think some other (constructive) opinions would be helpful before I decide to go out there and get some new headshots.

In terms of auditions, they've been alright. I'm going to submit soon for stronger representation (both commercially and theatrically) so that's why I'm also asking for your critique and feedback Smiler

What I think of as more commercial shots - which one is best?

#1

#2

#3

Which one of these should I use for theatrical? (yes I know they are all pretty much similar.. but I notice subtleties in the expression..so just wanted to get your opinions..)..and I will get it retouched as well (gosh so many flyaway hairs)

#4

#5

#6

I'm also curious about the whole hair up/down thing.. is it ok that in my smiling pic my hair is up and then in the more theatrical shots, my hair is down?

Thanks for any input and feedback - I appreciate it!

#5!

I wish you were showing teeth in the first two commercial shots.

Definitely # 5 for theatrical. Awesome headshot!

I prefer 1 or 2 for the commercial, but it would have looked much better if you were smiling. Not too crazy about the hair being pulled back in # 3.

Thanks everyone for their feedback.. do you think it's worth it for me to go out there and get a new commercial shot? I have some photographers in mind and I could see what their rate would be for just one look.

Since #5 was pretty much unanimous in terms of theatrical shot, I'll definitely keep that as is..

Why not ask for a reshoot?

I forgot to add one more shot to the commercial shot mix. unfortunately I did not have very many good smiling shots. This pic is more perky than the other ones, so I wondered if I could use it for commercial.. pls let me know if you guys still prefer the first two commercial shots over this one..

I thought about asking for a re-shoot, but well, I wouldn't mind working with a new photographer either. thanks again for the feedback, it's really appreciated.

That pic is no good. Touching your head is as hip as black and white headshots are.

do you mean the one I just posted up? I wonder if touching your head is really so bad...maybe it depends on the pic?

Michael Chevas took them - I think they turned out well overall.

Exactly. It's posed and posing is unnatural. Headshots are supposed to be unnatural.

It reminds me of those glamour shots that cute Asian girls would take of themselves back in middle school and high school.

Uh, I've never taken any of those kinds of glamour shots and will probably never so I don't really see the resemblance in any way. But I do agree that it looks more posed..

I think I am going to go with #1 or #2 for commercial for now until I can get a re-shoot for a shot with some teeth!

I like #1, but I agree that it's more of a theatrical, serious shot than a commercial shot. I bet you have a great smile Smiler

#4 is also very nice - it's straight forward and honest.

Best of luck!
