I do agree that B&W is becoming outdated. I recommend Barry Burns for inexpensive headshots.

Do you know any friends that are trying to become prof. photographers? Also there's got to be photographers in this business that are trying to break into this business. You get your headshot(s) done, and they get something for their portfoilio.

B & W is fine. I still use a B & W photo cause it's a great shot in addition to color. But, I do agree if you're going to take new shots, take them in color. Also, find a way to take them with someone who isn't charging $150.00. They are going to be very amateur looking shots and you'll end up spending twice as much in the long run. Borrow from your friends, sell lemonade in Union Square, whatever you need to do.

Hope this helps.

As a working independent film director (and a headshot photographer) I can tell you that B&W is not a good idea. When thousands of pics come in, the B&W look outdated, and the assumption is made (right or wrong) that the picture is old, and the actor doesn't care enough to update.

Good luck.

It's a start for shots. Color and BW if you need.

to answer your question, i cannot reccommend anyone, but you can ask about this guy who does $99.00 headshots. I heard of him, and its a special he only does on mondays i think. I have NOT used him and cannot say anything good or bad about him. Just something to look into. =)

Go onto model mayhem and network with photographers and do trade work for a good headshot. Or craigslist.

$150 is too inexpensive for a pro to give you the attention you deserve. If you have the time TFP/CD is the way to go. It may be a bit of a networking nightmare but if someone says they'll do it for $150 and their a pro I would expect some sort of catch. Like having to purchase individual images after the shoot.

Hey,
you can try ModelMayhem.com There are lots of photographers there and someone could even shoot you for free (TFP).

I would caution against going with B&W shots. As an independent film director, I basically skip over B&W shots. They seem to scream out that the actor doesn't care enough about his/her career to update their shots.

Just one man's opinion!

Good luck!
