Don't waste your money on b&w...most CDs view them as outdated and some agents will not accept them any longer...they will ask you to go out and get them done in color. You might like the b&w better, but it comes down to what the CDs want to see.

Agreed with the rest - if an agent or CD comes across a b&w headshot, they'll most probably think it's at least 4-5 years old, because at that time the majority has moved towards color. If the shots have to be under $150, make sure they're not highschool yearbook-type pix. I'm all for "you get what you pay for," but I don't think one should have to pay a million dollars for good photos. Just hunt around. Idk if they're cheap, but checkout the photographers on Reproduction's website.

Act...on stage and in film and television. And for the record, you don't have to be an A-Lister to know what the industry standards are. You can take our advice or not, no skin off our backs, we were just trying to be helpful.
"You ask my advice about acting? Speak clearly, don't bump into the furniture and if you must have motivation, think of your pay packet on Friday." Noel Coward.

If that is the case then why did my black and white photo get me called very recently for a national W Hotel commercial and print run?
Don't assume the advice is coming from out of work actors or actors who can't get hired. If you think that is who is on this board, then why did you ask? Not that any of this matters, and not that I'm obligated to tell you, but I work behind he scenes in the biz, have for over 20 years. You are making assumptions about the people on this board and we do have long term memories. What you post is searchable in perpetuity. If you insult us we will not be likely to assist you in the future. Congrats on getting called for the W campaign and good luck to you. Go with b&W if you feel that is right for you.

Yeah, congrats on the call for the campaign, but if you want one incident to define how the entire industry reacts to B&W then go ahead. But some years from now, well even now, B&W shots are viewed mostly as artsy or historical. As for my resume, not your business! If you wanna use a daguerreotype as a headshot - be my guest, just trying to help out...
