Hey
I am 43 and moving to LA. I assume I will be a character actor, if that is even the right label for LA. What type should I expect to be seen as and if you can clarify what kinds of roles that means I would appreciate it. As I have done mostly theater and only a few films I am not sure where I fit.

Well, what parts do you usually play? What parts have you done? Are they relatively similar or are they night and day? Based on this picture alone, I can see you in romantic comedies as the classic "best friend trying to make the love of his life realize he is the right one for her". I see shy and quiet with a heart of gold. but that is just my two cents.
Best,
M

I would say yes a character actor, and possibly a dad, the boyfriend type. You don't have that over the top character look. How I use to determine my type was I would watch movies, commercial, and tv shows and just watch and see if I saw any one the resembles me, or my type. Then I went from there. Good for you for making that move to LA man. Break a leg.

I really like this description.

You're what I call, "Everyman."

Right. So is Everyman good or bad. I like to look at it like hey I can make them see me as many things, but wonder if not having a clear type will make it hard to get an agent or get cast. I am cast as bad guy, lead, friend, character...kind of all over in the theater but not sure how I will be seen on camera.

"Everyman" is exactly what the word confers-- neither good, nor bad.

But in casting terms, it is usually always a "good guy" character designation.

A perfect example from film history would be Jimmy Stewart, who never played heavies (excluding his latter career role
as the bloodthirsty killer in "Once Upon A Time In The West").

All-in-all, 'Everyman' is probably the most castable type in the industry.

I agree you have a very marketable look. When you get out to LA, have some color headshots taken. These look very outdated.

Good luck.

Ok...well I was not expecting that. I was worried I looked too normal to fit a romantic role and not interesting enough to do character work. I think I have a lot to learn when I get to LA.

Well you look cute, not handsome, like a feminine somewhat good looking man (in facial features). So I would think your roles would be the good guy type, best friend, boyfriend, teacher (not principle), male nurse, store owner.

Roles I wouldn't think you can fit are doctor, husband, principle, soldier, anything that is really dominant and leading type.

I'll be watching you.

You look foreign, like you have an accent (maybe french). You're about average looking but not non-descript and somehow I see you playing a mildly disturbed man who a woman falls for. There's something about the counter-asian slant of your eyes, like you're a little sad or kind or "off." Similar to Jeffrey Tambor and Kristy McNichol. And Mark Linn-Baker from Perfect Strangers just popped into my mind.

are you comedic?
You look to me like sitcoms or romantic comedies...but I agree, kinda the everyday guy.
You have sweet eyes though which makes me see you more as the good guy rather than a bad guy.

Ok. So this was taken this year. I am about 40 pounds overweight in this one and am currently training for a marathon to lose it so I put up a shot that was a few years old as I am hoping the shot at the top is a better representation of how I will look in Sept. The real me hopefully will be somewhere in between these two. I plan to have headshots done as soon as I get to LA.
