It looks like a snapshot more than a professional headshot. Also, the window is distracting, as is the design on your shirt. The focus of attention should be YOU, not your surroundings or what you're wearing. It also seems to be slightly out of focus - not a lot, but not as sharp as it should be.

I updated the photo to include a more solid background for you and sharpened the image a bit. It's not professionally done (just a quick once through) but it gives you an idea. You should also consider cropping the photo closer.
It's not fantastic but it could do with a bit of cleanup.

But if we get on a treadmill together you are going to get off first or I'm going to die. It's really that simple. I'm not going to be outworked." -Will Smith

Hi sgtb, First off, you have a great look! I see oodles of potential. The next step is to find a photographer that can capture that potential! The lighting is poor and the shot is just mediocre all around. Not to mention it's soft. Get out there and find a professional photographer. Good luck!
I love your posture right there and you have a versatile look for many possible roles. I just think the lighting could be enhanced cos it is rather dim and it lacks clarity. You could do better than this! Best of luck!
sgtb, I just want to commend you on being able to take constructive feedback well, and use the advice to get better headshots in future. Good for you!
So many people post not-so-good headshots here and ask for feedback, but then when people offer constructive criticism that's meant to be helpful, they get all huffy and offended. So good for you for having a good attitude!

It's better than most snapshots and you look good.
Big problem is the on-camera flash that was used. It generates a tiny little pin-sized catchlight in your eye which is what makes this look unprofessional.
You'll notice in most headshots that eyes look really connected and "soulful" and much of this is due to the size of the catchlight in a person's eyes.
