I have found Acting and how to be Good at it by Basil Hoffman to e an extemely good book full of info. So much so I have read it twice! And Elie's Hollywood Connections is also amazing considering it lists 300+ contacts for agenst CD's Theatres and other nessesary acting areas to call.

Your Film Acting Career by MK & Rosemary Lewis is a good book for starting out and one I continue to reference. That book led me to Sam Christensen who does an image workshop for actors. It's amazing but expensive but well worth the money. I am so clear on who I am as an actor and what I selling. Plus, I have these great unique descriptions of myself so I always ready to write a great cover letter or chat in an interview or audition.

Also, highly recommend An Agent Tells All by Tony Martinez. What better way to get a view of the biz than from an agent. Read it cover to cover in a day.

Books I reference constantly to keep me brushed up on my acting skills and industry wisdom:

Audition by Michael Shurtleff
Acting in Film by Michael Caine
Acting in Commercials by Joan See
How to be a Working Actor
by Mari Lyn Henry & Lynne Rogers

Another great read is Blink by Malcolm Gladwell

This book gives you insight on yourself; on others; and how the mind works as it pertains to your thoughts (i.e. inner-dialog). Note, all of these are valuable tools to grasp as an actor.

Happy reading! Cool

Oh, you can order all these books via Amazon.com; and when your order reaches $25, you get free shipping. The books are discounted, and arrive in like a millisecond.

Margie Haber's:
How to get the part without falling apart

It's a great read, really informative. It breaks down the audition process in an easy to follow way

David Mamet's "True and False" gave me a completely different way of thinking about things as an actor. It's an informative book as well as it is enjoyable.

Constantin Stanislavski's 3 part series "An Actor Prepares" "Building a character" and "Creating a role" is like going to a conservatory w/o the tuition.

Oh my, how could I forget Mira Felner's Free to Act. I picked that up from the library again today. It is one of my favorite reads. We studied it in an acting class at my university!

Has anyone read "Training of the American Actor"? I just checked it out - it talks about different techniques; Stella Adler, Meisner, Chekhov, Uta Hagen, Physical Approach to Acting, etc. It looks intriguing! I'll post when I've read some of it.

I've got some reading to do!!! some great books on here keep coming up again and again!! I've read some...but got a few more to add to your list.

I've do have an interesting one though: The Tipping Point: Or ow Little Things Can make A Big Difference by Malcolm Gladwell.

This is actually a buisness book, and uses a buisness model. BUT, it can really start the gears rolling on new ideas on how to promote yourself. How to more efficiently postcard, how to make your YouTube get a million hits, how to get your name out there...

A great and entertaining book too, not all dry like most buisness texts. Explains some things in ways you really might never have thought of. HIGHLY reccommended.
