I danced for many years, gained some skills (mostly ballet, contemp.), but lost them all pretty much and now I'm in my mid-20s. It seems like it couldn't hurt to have some dancing skills as an actor, but what's your opinion on the best way to gain back skills that have been lost? I've seen classes that are supposed to bring students up to speed quickly, but I'm not famaliar with these.

If you want to get your dance skills back up to par, I'd take some open classes. That way you can see what skills you're lacking or what you could improve on. If you're in NYC you have tons of options, I think Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway have open classes you can take; I'm not sure if they're leveled, but if they are you could start out slow and then work your way up to more advanced classes. Or another option (if you're uncomfortable with just going out there and dancing after not doing it for several years) you could seek private instruction. Hope this helps!

Christine Cox offers dance classes with the singer/actor in mind - to bring back skills, and initiate skills without the stress of being with "dancers"!!! It might be worthwhile to check in with her if you want to brush up!
