I been trying to get this dance movement down for a while, but I feel like I am forcing it and it only comes out mechanical. I feel like I am just circling my hips and butt, rather than gyrating it like she does it. Lucky me; first thread in section.

The movement is during the first 6 seconds, but if I can mastered that I want to do all the movements that she does in the video.

I've had to copy dance routines as a former assistant, so a couple tips...

Make sure you're looking at what the whole body is doing, instead of just the part you're trying to learn. In that video, it looks like a lot of her movement is coming from her feet and legs. Make sure you're squatting down... I can vouch that moves like that are impossible with straight legs.

Also, look out for tricks being used. I don't mean special effects or anything, but in that video, she always has that ruffly scarf thing on her butt that makes her look like she's doing even more hip work than she's actually doing. That might throw you off when you're looking at yourself in the mirror and can't figure out why you don't look like her.

Don't know if that helps or not; just a couple of things I've learned!
