How many of you all have two jobs and still have time for auditions, shoots and rehearsals. Im thinking in a place like AZ where it is slower than the bigger markets (LA, NY, Chicago) and you guys still have time for all that it may work for me. I need money and right now I am only working part time. I may move up to full time soon but is having a (potentially) full time job and part time job (serving) limiting me?

Thanks guys

I don't think it would be possible to have two jobs and still do all the work I need to do for my acting career.

I easily get by with one... but I don't spend much on luxeries.

I have 2 part time jobs at still struggle to get 30 hours. But Im also in college and I definitly feel like I need to let atleast one go. But I cant cuz I have to have tuition money and other funds. So after this semester Ill quit my first job. I feel overwhelmed often. Plus, Ive missed two opportunites on account to being tired and lazy and not checking my messages. If you have to, then find two flexible jobs. If you dont have to. DONT.

Not sure if I'm totally understanding your post, but:

I think you do what have to do to make money. You work the 'survival jobs' until they become a problem and THEN you quit one of them, if necessary.

Just make sure you have the time & energy to pursue auditions, whether it involves submitting online, mailing submissions in, showing up in person, or a mixture of all of them.

When you get an audition: Go. If it involves missing work or part of a day of work, you do what you need to do to attend the audition. Sometimes that involves missing work or getting someone else to cover for you. I don't know what you're pursuing (commercials, theater, film) so the genre you're doing often kind of dictates if you work a day job or a night job. Regardless, usually there's a way to work it. A lot of actors that audition can usually find a way to skip out on their day job occasionally....unless you're getting so many auditions that that particular job becomes a problem, and that's when they quit. But in the meantime....you gotta make $$$. And auditioning doesn't always mean you have to miss the whole day of work, but again, totally depends what you're pursuing, which auditions you're going to, etc. etc. etc.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the replys guys. I am only working part time for the time being and my acting classes/workshops/showcases and headshots are costing me lots 'o money that I don't really have. Also, Im racking up a bunch of cc debt because my pay checks aren't enough to get me by. Also, I just graduated from college and those loans are creeping up on me and I only hope I can pay for all these things. As for auditions and shoots go, Im not sure if ill have the time and energy to do it all!! Sure, im fairly young but I don't know where people have the energy because I surely don't. Burning out seems so unnecessary.

Ill take all your responses into account! Thanks again Smiler

You're welcome...

It all kinda depends on how much you want it [acting], you know? If you really feel you have to do it, you'll find a way.

In the meantime, $$$ is being important & being able to pay your bills (and pay off your cc debt, and your loans) is important, & anyone who tells you it's not doesn't know what they are talking about.

For right now, it sounds like you need to concentrate on making money. A couple of ways you can do that:

-Get one well-paying, full-time job where you still have some flexibility & time off (that's the best way)

or

-Get a couple of different jobs that might keep you very busy but you make some $$$$. Maybe will keep you too busy to pursue acting for a little while, but in the meantime, you'll be able to pay off your debts and put some money aside that you can use for classes/workshops and all that. When your finances improve, you can ease up, maybe quit one of the jobs so you have more time off.

If you're living with family right now (?) - that is a great money to save money & before you know it you'll have some money saved up.

Best of luck!!

I actually have three jobs: 1 full-time, and 2 part-time. The full-time job is writing/editing for a website, which is perfect because I freelance and work from home (ie. as flexible as it gets, really.) I also waitress a couple of nights a week, and try to do as much background work as I can (gotta get those SAG vouchers!) Miraculously enough, I am still able to make it to classes and audition--although, sometimes that means calling in sick or booking out for non-acting work. Even though I'm making enough $$$ to live off of, it's still extremely difficult to balance making money vs. going to auditions (ie. if I have a lot of auditions in one week, I wind up not making as much as I'm used to--but I can't NOT go to auditions, you know?) Oh, and I have NO social life to speak of (I keep telling myself that that's just a temporary sacrifice, but it's been this way for a while now...) I guess what I'm trying to say is: Yes, it IS possible to hold multiple jobs and still wholeheartedly pursue acting--but it is EXHAUSTING, and you have to sacrifice things like hanging out with friends or getting a good night's sleep :-) Soooo, back to the age-old question: How badly do you want it?

yup, something's got to give, and if you have to temporarily put it aside, like a social life, in order to pursue your dream, so be it. Right?
