How about being a set PA? Do you think it's worth it for an in between job?

Every truly great accomplishment is at first impossible.

Only if you can commit to a project. No one will hire you if they think you will run out on them to go to an audition. Unless your producer is VERY understanding, HA. Your reputation for both cast and crew is very important and word spreads quickly. If you are dependable that also will spread. Many work both ends of the camera and stage. If fact crew jobs can be more dependable than talent for some.

I've often thought about this too.... since there's no where else I'd rather be - why not work in the industry I want to be in, just on another side of it, and make some money at it? I just don't know how to do about getting crew jobs... any suggestions?

I've noticed that NYCastings has a crew listings as does Backstage. Not sure about ActorsAccess. Just one idea.
Most of these are nonunion. I mean, not IATSE, IBEW, NABET, etc.

PA jobs are rarely union, even if the production overall is union.

But a PA job is good in that it affords you the opportunity to meet people.

On ET, Kathleen kennedy was a PA. On Speilberg's next film, she was a producer.

It's not a direct path to successful actor, but IMO industry jobs should be considered before "restaurant" jobs for the aspiring actor.

My opinions only,

Andy

If you were in LA, I'd say, get a copy of the Hollywood Reporter Weekly International edition, that lists all shows in production, and work hard to get a PA job on one of them.
