I wish to join a theater troupe.

ARe there open calls or where do I know that I can join a troupe. Pay is not important, but I only want to work with actors who are serious about acting.

Well, looks like nobody here is a member of a troupe, or there are so few. Or they are too busy to post on a forum.

Just bumping this up. Maybe I'll get some ideas.

Even if you aren't a member of a troupe, let me hear what you heard.

Marcus, I've noticed that it doesn't seem like a lot of people will reply on these boards with advice for questions such as these. It's not very often that you will get several suggestions/ideas. There are a few people that seem to be very helpful, but it seems as though there are only a few. I would like to find a theater troupe as well but I am extremely new to LA and am still trying to get everything else figured out.

Anyway, I have no direct answers for you, my best suggestion would be to do some internet searches and see if you can find some information on some theater troupes and then search for info about the specific troupes to see if you can find some reviews/feedback on them before making any decisions. Good Luck!

Hi, bstevenson.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed that nobody replied. But I'm asking around, and where's an urge, there's a satisfaction.

Good luck, and welcome to LA.

Start your own, Marcus. Get a couple of friends together and start acting.

That's how it happens.

I often recommend Sacred Fools Theatre as at least a starting point. No dues (last I heard), a very friendly supportive group and productions that often get great reviews. Plus lots of the people are involved in other aspects of acting so it's a good place to get oriented over all.

I know less about Circus Theatricals but they do have great facilities and a lot going on.

A few people I've met who were involved with LOnny Chapman Group Repertory Theatre seemed very devoted to that troupe.

Otherwise, you might check through the reviews here and in the LA Weekly and see which troupes get the best mentions, then see if they have a Web site and take it from there.

Yes, that's what I'm doing right now.

The big question is rehearsal space. I asked around, and those 99 seat theaters rent for rehearsals, but... whew! quite pricey!

Thank you! I will check these guys out.

I am currently preparing my own theater group, but I have yet to solve the rehearsal space problem.

And, also, I'd like to meet more other actors, so I can who I can get together with to put something on a stage in a complete stage of theatrical happiness.

What about rehearsal space at local High schools or state colleges? Unless you have complicated blocking or intricate stage sets, you can use non-stage rehearsal space for a good 3/4 or your preparation period.

A couple I've heard about that may interest you: http://groups.google.com/group/oceanplayers, and www.movingarts.org. There's also a fairly extensive list at www.at-la.com/biz/@la-theatre.htm, then click on 'Troupes'

Circus Theatricals and Lonny Chapman both charge dues, but both are highly recommended.

My pleasure!
By the way, if you have trouble entering that at-la site (I did), just go to www.at-la.com, then in the left-hand column of menu choices click on Arts, then Theater, then Troupes.
