I wanna go next fall (2010), but I'll be turning 27 at the beginning of that semester. That puts me at nearly 30 after a three-year program or almost 29 after a two-year. I've heard that most programs like people with a little experience outside of college, and I'll have been living and working (off and on) in New York for five years at that point. I guess I'm wondering if my age will be a strike against me. Will I have to be extra-great in the audition to be considered? It just seems like almost everyone is right out of or just a year or so out of college when they start. If anyone out there is thinking about going for their mfa, how old will you be when you start? Is there anyone who has an mfa who was in their late-20's or older before they got it and can reassure me?

I'm in my second year of the MFA program in The Theatre School at DePaul, I'll be 30 when I graduate in June 2011. You are not too old and it will not be a strike against you; if anything, your age and experience could be a benefit when it comes to certain situations in class and outside of school (personal drama, etc.)
You don't have to be extra-great in your audition, be extra YOU. There's no one else like you in the world. Do your homework on the schools you want to apply to, learn your lines, and have fun at the auditions!
