I was looking at a program that looks like it would work. It states that I would be in a private tutelage program and have a career coordinator to assist in finding jobs.

My question is if I have had some acting lessons, I am going to presume one six month program is enough to start getting gigs and with a career coordinator, I should get better gigs than what I was getting. But, if I wanted to get into acting, wouldn't the type program at Film Connections be the best way to start, too.

See, the Film Connection Film Acting Program offers the most no-nonsense, comprehensive acting training on the market today. No other program combines both the truly rigorous craft of an acting program with one-on-one result oriented career coaching sessions.

WTF! One six month course is NOT enough to make you a working actor! A lot of the good professional actors these days, notably Denzel Washington, are constantly training.

Though this sounds interesting, how much does studying at film-connection for acting cost?

Here are somethings to think about:
1. Film-connection is largely a Film making school. It ISN'T well known enough for it's acting program.
2. You want to diversify your training. Not just go to ONE place to learn it all! If you want to be competitive, you want to study at the best school for each discipline. Ie. Improv at the Groundlings, Second City, etc. Cold Reading with Margie Haber, Scene study with Ivana Chubbuck, Commercials with Mike Pointer, etc.
3. Written assignments? Pleeze! Acting shouldn't be approached academically! That kills the art!
4. It's not the ONLY school that has a one on one career counselor. There are MANY, especially ones that are more prestigious than Film-Connection.

Also, a lot of the stuff they teach is a waste of time and money. You can save yourself a lot of money by reading affordable books on the business side of acting. They're not going to teach you anything exclusive that you can't find at Samuel French or some other bookstore.

Here are some good books worth checking out:
How to Get the Part Without Falling Apart-Margie Haber
One Less Bitter Actor: The Actor's Survival Guide-Markus Flanagan
The Power of the Actor-Ivanna Chubbuck
Audition-Michael Shurtleff
Secrets to Successful Cold Readings-Glenn Alterman
The 8 Characters of Comedy-Scott Sedita
How to Get Arrested-J. Wallach Michael and Paul Thurwachter

I basically agree 100% with El Dorado.

Just the name... Career coordinator? As in someone who is going to coordinate your career? Would that be like a manager? Sounds like a manager to me. Except they get paid, and you don't. Sure it's good to have someone give you helpful tips... but career coordinator... come on.
