Hi - do casting directors, agents, producers, etc. frequent IMDb to get information (contact info or resumes) and/or cast an actor for a project from that website?

I was wondering how important is it to have your acting credit & contact info on IMDb? Also should an attached picture or video be "a must" for a child actor? Thanks so much in advance for your time and reply! Smiler

They definitely use it as a resource. They wouldn't cast directly off the site-although it may be a factor in who gets called in.

It's important to have all your legitimate credits on there, and probably a picture too. But all the other bells and whistles-biographical info, an excessive amount of photos, etc.-are definitely not necessary. And the "IMDB resume" thing is useless-a waste of money-your IMDB page should be your resume. If it's not a credit that passes muster for IMDB proper, it's not likely anyone cares about it. And don't add extra work to your page-the pros can sniff it out.

Do make sure that your contact info and agency rep are on there too.

I disagree with the fact that the IMDB RES is w waste of money. If you have credits the res page can show what Theater you have done also what training you've attained. People don't think so but that STILL matters to some.

Actually, if you have good theater credits or great training you can put those in the "other works" section of your page for free. Also, many of the "IMDB resume"s I see contain things they shouldn't, like specific commercials(a definite no-no) and extra work masquerading as principal work. Stuff like this can hurt rather than help. I highly doubt anyone has been called in for anything based on one of these. And it's not just my opinion but industry pros' as well. They would agree that an AA and LACasting resume is essential but not on IMDB.

LA Delight - you and I always seem to be in agreement. Congrats on being a smart and well informed actor.

If you're just starting out, there's no need to worry about IMDB. But just so you know for the future, yes - agents use it all the time. Actually, we have access to IMDB PRO which has a lot more information.
