I got signed with an agent in mid May and I have only been on one audition.

Is it really that slow right now?

Is this the norm?

What should my next step be? (other than continually submitting myself on LaCasting and taking more classes)

Who's your agent? I think it may be time to give them a call. You never know, they may have forgotten about you. If theres anything i know is that agents are always doing something. Give a call, ask how things are going, refresh there memories. Good Luck NickJ'sgirl

I signed with DPM Agency, supposedly they're in the top 40 commercial agencies according to info4actors.com.

I'd call my agent, but he kind of has anger management issues (he yelled at me the second time I talked to him over the phone. He was angry I wasn't in his LaCasting agency portflio. No one ever explained to me I was supposed to do that and frankly I was shocked that the second I answered my phone I had him being all irate.

Eeker yikes!

But it happens. I wouldn't call, I would send him a postcard, letting him know you're taking a class, attending workshops or just a hello would fine too. Good luck! Smiler

Yeah, the postcard idea seems the best. I have also been on a few open calls for print with better agencies, hoping they would sign and I could eventually change agencies but no one else has offered me representation.

The oddest thing about the whole ordeal was that I got my agent through the Hey I saw Your Commercial showcase in which 3 agents came in. I told the teacher who taught the class (who is a very nice man) what my agent did and he told me to get a new agent and to sign up for his next showcase. I can't however because my agency (the one I complained about) is coming back for his showcase. I don't know it seemed odd to me that he would bring in this agency again when people (more than myself apparently) were complaining about the agent having anger issues.

Right now, film is dead. We're in what they call "a defacto strike". That means very few movies (especiall big ones) till the whole SAG mess is settled.

TV is at about 80% right now. It should be back to 100% by August. So you should be getting out on TV because we're all pretty busy at Secret Agent Man headquarters.

Let me also point something out. Your question is impossible to answer honestly because I don't know you. I don't your age, type or level of experience. All of that determines how often you should be going out on auditions.

And finally, CONGRATS on getting signed. That's a huge step in the right direction and you have every right to be proud of yourself!

OK. I just read the rest of your thread and I realize you're talking about commercials. That's not really my world but I have to be honest with you - I've never heard of DPM. What does that even stand for?

Also, the top forty commercial agencies? That's a dubious accomplishment, isn't it? I'd be impressed if they were in the top ten, or even the top twenty, but top forty??? Yikes.

And based on what you wrote, the guy sound likes a major a-hole. I guess you can't blame him. After all, the loser only made it into the top forty...

I hate to say this, but get outta there!
I don't know you, but you can probably do better.
I know a woman who was there for about 2 years...never went out. I remember about 5-6 times a YEAR. The only work she got was on her own. Then when she finally left...that guy, the owner, threw a holy FIT. Seriously.

Hope this helps... and I'm so sorry to put a damper on getting an agent for you.

Meanwhile, this topic line looks SO like the opening line of a bit:

'How slow is it?

It's so slow Kevin Costner looks like he's actually acting.

It's so slow Colin Farrell is behaving.

It's so slow all the Clears [as in Scientology] are starting to fog up.

It's so slow the Breakdowns have stopped breaking down.

It's so slow runaway production will soon be crawlaway production.

It's so slow that the agent trainees who used to be in the mail room have been moved to the Post Office.'

Etc.

Anyone else tempted?
