Are there any particular commercial workshops to actually meet casting directors? It seems most workshops are for legit CDs.

thank you!

I've gone to a few. The best Commercial CD workshop that I've attended was done at Reel Pros and led by Stuart Stone. It was like a commerrcial class. I actually learned something and it wasn't about impressing the CD.

Terry Berland and Michael Sanford sometimes stop by Network Studios.

The reason why the casting directors are mostly film/tv at the workshops is because they see a lot fewer actors than do commercial agents. Commercial Casting Directos see 50-100+ actors per audition. Film/TV maybe 5-25 actors per audition.

Commercial agents and Theatrical agents DON'T exactly do the same thing. Theatrical agents like fewer clients so they can pitch them to the film/tv casting directors who see very few. Commercial agents DON'T call commercial cds and pitch their clients. Commercial agents get a casting call for example asking for black dudes in their 20s and then go to LA Casting, click all of their clients who match those descriptions and mass submit, hoping the Commercial CD picks several of them.

Does anyone have any experience with actual commercial classes - as opposed to showcases - where the students perform for commerical agents and casting directors when the class is over?

TVI has one or two commercial agents at the end of the class. However, their commercial classes are TERRIBLE!

Carolyne Barry, Stewart K. Robinson, Mike Pointer (Hey, I Saw Your Commercial!), and Killian McHugh (all top commercial classes) don't. Mike Pointer does have showcases with 3 Top Commercial agents once a month.
